The regiment served with distinction during the American Civil War (1861-1865), participating in all three campaigns against Richmond – First Bull Run (May 1861), Second Bull Run (July 1861), and Third Bull Run (October 1861). After the war, many of these veterans returned home and resumed their old society roles within their communities. In Broadview Heights, they founded schools, churches, banks, restaurants and other businesses. Today there are still active regimental units located throughout Ohio playing an important role in our state’s defense system.
Broadview Heights is a town in theuy of central Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers in what is now Broadview Heights were Nicholas Ayer and his family who arrived in 1788 from Rhode Island. They named their new location "Ayersville" after David Ayers, one of their compatriots on the ill-fated Mayflower Compact. In 1837, Nathan Bedford Forrest bought 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of land east of Broadview Heights for $5 per acre ($100 worth of property at that time). In 1847 he donated another 500 acres (200 hectares) to the town of Cleveland for use as a parkland and plantation society train depot. The Forrest Foundation continues to own and operate this depot to this day. In 1936, John Fenton became Mayor of Cleveland and appointed Jens Rasmussen as Broadview Heights' first township trustee. Rasmussen served until 1949 when he was succeeded by Harry Sievers with whom he continued to serve until his death in 1956. He also served as chairman for the board of trustees from 1951-1957; during this time Broadview Heights experienced significant growth both economically and socially due to its role within Cleveland's city limits while maintaining much autonomy from downtown Cleveland.. His successor Hilda Shafer took over as Trustee from 1957-1965; during her tenure broad view heights saw an increase in development with more than doubling its population to 11,500 residents by 1970s when she left office.. She was followed by Gayle King who held office until 1990 when she resigned after being elected Mayor of Greater Cleveland.. During her term broad view heights saw a decrease in population but increased economic activity thanks to attracted newcomers such as Apple Inc., Ford Motor Company and Macy's Department Store which opened up shop here beginning around 1930s making it one of America's earliest shopping communities outside urban centers

Broadview Heights was originally settled in 1788 by the Delaware Indians. The area became a part of the Northwest Territory on February 14, 1803, and then became part of the United States on July 4, 1828. Broadview Heights was founded as a village on a tract of land that included what is now the city of Cleveland. The first settler was David Weiser. Weiser named his farm "Broadview". In 1814, he married Sarah Houser and they started to live on their farm. They had two children: Stephen and Sophia. In 1825, weiser moved to Cleveland and started to sell goods from his farm at 7 Queen Street. He also built a store on Superior Avenue which he called "The Grange". In 1830, weiser donated land for the construction of Cuyahoga County Hall (later known as the University of Michigan). The cornerstone for county hall was laid on October 22nd, 1830 by Governor John Pemberton with Reverend James Ladd as honorary caterer. After years of planning and fundraising, work began in earnest on building county hall inNovember 1830.. On November 9th 1840 an important event occurred when Charles Fenton donated $10K to help pay for new courtrooms and other courthouse needs. In 1841-1842 Broadview Heights had its first schoolhouse which served grades K-8th grade until it burned down in 1888; however there were two schools that operated between 1846-1868 before it burned down again; one served grades 9th-12th while another operated from 1865-1867; however both these schools closed due to financial difficulties brought about by increased transportation costs associated with real estate development within Cleveland at this time
