Broadview Heights is a town in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. Broadview Heights is located on the southern edge of Akron, between I-271 and I-480. The first settlers in what would become Broadview Heights were farmers who arrived around 1812. They named their settlement after William Broadhurst, an American Revolutionary War general and member of the British Parliament who died in 1781. The early residents grew corn and beans for local consumption, but also raised horses and cattle to provide milk and meat for their families. In 1837, William Hoadly opened a flour mill in what is now downtown Broadview Heights; this began the village's industrial growth. By 1830, there were also three stores and four saloons in town. The village rapid growth continued during the 1830s due to heavy demand from rural areas surrounding it for goods produced by local farmers such as milling flour and rice.
