Broadview Heights is a census-designated place in the southeastern portion of Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. The population was 8,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Youngstown–Warren Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was founded in 1806 by James Broad VIEWVIEW and others as a small settlement on the right bank of the Cuyahoga River between what are now University Heights and West Side Village. It quickly grew into a large town with over 10,000 people by 1836. In 1837, it became part of Sandusky County and was renamed Broadview Heights after John Hays Broad VIEWVIEW its first mayor. By 1840, all but 2% of the residents were white Baptist/Protestant ministers who ran their own schools and churches there. The remaining residents were mostlyethnic German Catholics (mostly Irish). In 1850, most of the factories in nearby Youngstown were closing down due to competition from new American industrial plants west of Cincinnati; however Broadview Heights continued to grow because it had more farmers than other towns in that area. By 1860, much of what is now downtown Broadview Heights had been built up – including several churches and schoolhouses – while portions of North SideVillage and South SideVillage still consisted largelyof forested terrain. However, many homes still remained unoccupied because no one wanted to leave their land money-wise after so many years living close to industry. One resident even offered to sell his home for $1 per acre (about $ today) just so someone could build a house on it! In 1865, when Ohio Govt passed an act authorizing annexation by Indiana via territorial means; Broadview Heights voted not to annex along with almost every other township within Sandusky County due to fears that this would lead to job losses for local farmers whileIndiana would get all the benefits (including tax breaks) that came with being annexed into America’s largest country ever! This decision helped preserve some vestige of local autonomy even though most people insideSandusky County eventually moved away during these timespan changes which saw farmland become increasingly valuable as transportation options became more available outside Cleveland. Eventually proper incorporation as a city took place on December 15th 1906 when both SanduskyCounty government & City Of Cleveland agreed upon boundaries which included nearly all present-dayBroadview Heights neighborhoodexcept for about two blocks north & east OF Grand Ave which remain under Village control today despite numerous offers from developers overthe years + recent annexation+ rezoning efforts by City Hall resultingin increased population density above original 1940 levels making BROADVIEW HEIGHTS an officially incorporated CITY IN 2011 🙂

Broadview Heights is a village in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was founded in 1814 by Captain James A. Broad and his wife Hester Biddle Broad as a farming hamlet on the east side of what is now Marathon Avenue in central Cuyahoga Valley. It became a town on November 15, 1875, when it merged with nearby Akron to form the Cleveland metropolitan area. The village's name comes from two of its founders: Captain James A. Broad and Hester Biddle (née) Catlett-Broad. The Village Green amusement park opened in 1925 and remains an attraction today for children and adults alike. Other significant attractions include the Orchard Road Baptist Church (opened 1912), which has been home to many local dignitaries such as Mayor Frank Jackson and Congressman David Kapp; and Cooksville Landing State Park (), which features a reconstructed portion of an 1859 sawmill complex that once used Matewan Creek to power its machinery. In addition to its downtown core, Broadview Heights offers several smaller neighborhoods including Wellesley Hills, Westlake Hills, Northgate Hills, Mayfield Heights and Berkley Gardens (). The area that is now Broadview Heights was first settled in the late 1800s. At the time, it was a small town located on the eastern edge of Cincinnati. The early settlers were primarily German immigrants and their families. By the turn of the century, however, there were also waves of Irish and Italian immigrants living in the area. Throughout most of its history, Broadview Heights has been a largely white community. However, over time there have been increasing numbers of minority groups living in and around the town. In recent years, this diversity has led to increased tensions between different segments of society.
