The history of firearms in Broadview Heights, Ohio began with the Earliest European Firearms on July 3rd, 1792 when Nicholas Flavin and his partner John K. Richards took possession of a rifle from Captain James Wilkinson during the French and Indian War. The weapon was made by Nicholas Flavin and it is now entered into the National Firearms Museum in Ottawa, Canada. From that point forward, firearms were constantly being manufactured in Broadview Heights and other surrounding towns throughout the years. Many of these firearms would go on to be used in various wars throughout America including the American Revolution, World Wars I-II, Vietnam War and more. In 1927, Dr. George Henniker opened his hospital located at 611 N Main Street in Broadview Heights which would become known as The Henniker Clinic for Medical Treatment of Armed Forces Veterans. This hospital would provide veterans with various medical treatments such as treatment for gunshot wounds and other injuries incurred during combat or service. The clinic also served as a training ground for many future doctors who worked at The Henniker Clinic until it closed its doors in 2002. Many weapons once manufactured here have been preserved or are currently on display at various locations around town such as The Bayfront Terrace Armory where you can see an 1802 Lewis Gun still sitting there today while also taking part in several shooting competitions each year. In 1957, The Firearms Dealer moved to 15th Avenue NW and became known as Renaissance Armory. It closed in 1999 but is still standing as a museum today.
Broadview Heights, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the east bank of the Cuyahoga River. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 97,792. The city was founded in 1824 by John Broad and his brother-in-law George Rogers Clark as a village named for their home town in western Virginia. In 1837, it became a town and was renamed after Philadelphia merchant James Broad. The city was incorporated as a city in 1902. It experienced significant growth during World War II due to its proximity to Cleveland and its manufacturing base at Richfield Arsenal; however, rapid suburbanization has caused much decline since then. Today, Broadview Heights is mainly an upscale community with large homes and golf courses dotting its streets.

This community became known as Broadview Heights after they named their new town for their broader view of things than anyone else at that time. By 1830, Broadview Heights had several stores, a school, and two churches. It also had a few hundred residents who were engaged in business or farming. When Ohio was founded as an independent country in 1792, only about twenty-five people lived in what is now Ohio because most of them were from Pennsylvania and New York City. Within three years after statehood, however, Ohio had more than five thousand residents living within its borders! During this time period, Broadview Heights grew rapidly into one of the most important towns in northwestern Ohio because it served as both a commercial center for nearby farms and as a home to many prominent citizens including Judge James Renwick Sr., Governor George Washington Carver (1863-1871), Congressman John Sherman (1875-1927), Dr. Charles Fenton (1881-1965), Mrs. Gertrude Stein (1904-1985), Mayor Milton Shaler (1945-1951), Admiral Chester Nimitz (1954-) and many others! Important events that occurred during this time include: 1) The addition of Sunday shopping to local businesses by Colonel George Rogers Clark when he opened his store at 331 Sixty Sixth Street on November 15th, 1837; 2) Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry's visit to broadVIEW HEIGHTS on July 5th - 8th 1845 while en route tooquench Lake Erie; 3) First use of radios by Reverend Elisha Grayling at his church on May 6th 1904; 4) Establishment by Judge James Renwick Sr., Jr., et al.,of Parkland College which later became Case Western Reserve University; 5) President Franklin D Roosevelt's speech given at Cleveland State Normal School March 14th 1942 called "The Great Debate" which helped revive faltering American industry; 6) The first settlement drive sponsored by civic organizations led by Mayor Milton Shaler against discrimination within local businesses resulting in passage by vote from city council members Annette Griggs McDermott and Thomas McNulty December 10th 1949 allowing residency for single parents seeking work permits; 7) Construction starting February 1st 1957on Main Street adjacent to Case Western Reserve University serving asBroadviewHEIGHTS' gateway into Cleveland until it closed down August 9th 1981 due to financial problems caused by high tuition rates charged by Case Western ReserveUniversity students studying here; 8) Provisional annexation/ incorporation into Cuyahoga County effective January 16TH 1951 pursuantto efforts madeby Mayor Milton Shaler together with Representatives Dick Thornburghand Bill Elder
