It was on a clear day in the spring of 1892 that two brothers, John and George Watson, began making binoculars. The Watsons were working at their father’s mill in Broadview Heights. It was an early days for optics, and they needed to find a way to improve their product. They decided to make their own lenses from brass and glass. By 1893, they had started selling binoculars under the name “Watson & Sons”. In 1896, they purchased a mill in Canfield Township and continued producing binoculars there until 1922 when the business passed away. The first modernbinocular design was created by Crocker & Bacon in 1894-1895. This design featured a concave lens with a large surface area for better image quality. The first modern binocular also used eyepieces made of metal or plastic material for better vision correction. By 1912, most manufacturers had released models with either Objective lenses or Parabolic lenses which corrected aberration patterns across the entire spectrum of light levels (see below). In 1862-1863, Edwin Atherton patented an invention that would revolutionize how people viewed natural landscapes and wildlife through binoculars: his Aperture reflex prismatic viewing device (PRPVD). With this innovation, he demonstrated how objective lenses could be combined with parabolic reflectors to create what is now known as Aperture reflex viewing devices (ARVs) or simply “binoculars”! These devices allowed users to see objects up close even while wearing protection against stray light entering your eyes! Broadview Heights is a small town in Union County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Toledo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Broadview Heights was John Sprague. He and his family came from Connecticut in 1824. They started a farm on the present site of Broadview Heights in 1829 and named it forGeneral George Washington's birthplace, Mount Vernon. In 1839, Sprague built a log cabin on the hill above today's high school complex. By 1840, he had four children and began to clear land for farming purposes; he also erected a frame house on the lot that now houses the grocery store and post office. In 1842, he married Esther Vail (1814-1848). The couple farmed until their deaths in 1888 and 1922, respectively. By 1850, Sprague had increased his holdings to . His descendants still live in broadVIEW HEIGHTS today with extensive holdings across several farms including: "Sprague Dairy" - located on of current property - where milk is produced for local consumption as well as production of eggs and other poultry products; "Barker Bros." meatpacking plant - which produces hogsheads of pork daily; "Tilton Lumber & Supply" - an octagon-shaped warehouse building that has been conversion into housing units; "Fenton Furniture Co." - which manufactured oak desk chairs before moving away to Chippewa Falls; "Anson Mills" shoe factory - which made shoes by hand until moved out of business during World War II; ;and two grain elevators (one demolished), one serving as a library/theater/cafeteria addition to high school that opened in 1951 called Oakwood High School Broadview Heights has been home to many businesses over its years including: movie theaters: Regal (1952), Summit (1957), IMAX (2002) ; bowling alleys: Gilded Cage(1964), Diamond alley(1967); schools: OakwoodHighSchool (1951), Stroudsburg Catholic Elementary School(1963); churches: Our Lady Of Charity Roman Catholic Church(1945), Our Lady Of Good Counsel Protestant Methodist Episcopal Church(1966); ice cream parlors: Ice Cream King cone shops:(1965-1976)

Broadview Heights is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 6,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that would become Broadview Heights was first settled by Europeans in 1796 as part of the Northwest Territory. In 1801, it became part of the new state of Ohio and was named for General James Broadus Washington Clarke, who had been a brigadier general in the U.S. Army under General Anthony Wayne during the American Revolution. The town developed slowly until its incorporation as a village in 1907. Its growth accelerated after World War II when many factories opened up in nearby Akron and other parts of northeastern Ohio. In 2000, Broadview Heights became one of fifteen CDPs to be included within Greater Cleveland's newly created metropolitan area. Today, Broadview Heights is home to many small businesses and homes dating back to pioneer days such as J & H Smith Clothing Store which still stands today on Stroud Road just east of I-271 southbound exit 9B (the old stretch now known as Euclid Avenue). Other notable residents include Judge John Wirthlin (1913–2002), who founded Wirthlin Broadcasting Corporation; Drs., Mrs., Ned Landis (1918–1998), entrepreneurs who started Appliances Outlet Mart on Fairfield Drive in 2001; Mayor Marty Lackerstadt (1989–2007); artist Tom Kapp ([email protected] ); and author/illustrator Don Freeman (1928–2015). Many people from throughout Northeast Ohio visit or live here each year for various reasons including arts and culture events such as Voices@BroadVIEW hectic music festival held every summer near downtown Columbus; annual agricultural show at Brown Agricultural Museum located about 2 1/2 miles west of junction with US Route 422 on smaller lot next to Crocker Dairy Barn; nightlife with numerous bars and restaurants located throughout central neighborhood; excellent public schools including Niles School District #1 which has an elementary school building located just north 4th Street between State Route 2244 and Interstate 271 exit 10A from I-271
The area now known as Broadview Heights was first settled in the late 1800s by German immigrants. The early settlers were farmers, and their families grew crops and raised livestock. In the early years, Broadview Heights was a small town with only a few homes. However, over time, the community became more diversified and developed its own infrastructure. For example, Broadview Heights had a school system and a post office. It also built roads and construction equipment to support its growing population. Over time, the town got a bit of notoriety for its high crime rates but it also became well-known for its cultural attractions such as art galleries and theaters.
