Broadview Heights is a census-designated place in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 29,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that would become Broadview Heights was first settled by Europeans in 1795. The name "Broadview" originated from a grant given to John Broadhurst by George Washington. At the time, the land was too wooded and rugged for farming, but it became known for its fertile soil and beautiful views of Lake Erie and the city of Cleveland across the river. In 1802, General David Trumbull purchased much of what is now Broadview Heights from William Morrell for $2 million dollars. He named his new settlement after General Trumbull's wife, Lady Abigail Adams Hearst. The town began growth quickly and soon had a population of around 100 people. By 1830, however, Broadview Heights had doubled in size and developed into an extensive village with over 1,500 residents. In 1833 it became a municipality with full voting rights and elected its own mayor and council members. During World War II broad view heights played an important role as one of two main training sites for ULTRA forces in northeast Ohio; other sites were Chardon Air Force Base east of Cleveland (known as Camp Blanding) near Akron (and later Pickering Army Airfield) KOA's along I-71 also housed ULTRA forces during this time period did not exist...In 1948 when Chardon AFB closed due to budget cuts Mayor Stratton merged local government functions into newly created City Government Company with City Hall located on Boulevard which still stands today making broad view heights one of most vibrant communities within cuyahoga county today One reason that broad view heights retains such strong community ties is its location just outside downtownCLEVELAND on side streets adjacent to busy thoroughfares like Euclid Avenue,. One must walk 3 blocks or more to reach any Park or playground! Broadview Heights is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the border of Athens and Fairfield counties. The population was 21,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati Metropolitan Area. The area that would become Broadview Heights was first settled by Germans in 1811 as "Nassau." In 1824, General George Washington's forces invaded what is now Ohio and destroyed Nassau's crops, driving away many of its settlers. In 1828, John Copley bought 1,000 acres (400 ha) of land east of downtown Cincinnati for $2 per acre (0.14 ha). He named it Broadview Heights after his father-in-law, who had died in 1817 while serving as United States ambassador to Russia under President James K Polk. In 1830, Drury Colfax donated 3 blocks (or 4 square miles or 11 sq km) to be used as a public square and park in Broadview Heights with 100 feet (30 m) width along one side and 100 feet (30 m) depth along another side separated by Rural Road from 2 lots valued at $1 each near Eager Ave., nowthe corner lot off US 36 North between High St./US 422 East/I-71 South which later became home to Presbyterian churches Asbury Methodist Church and First Baptist Church before they were razed during World War II; also on this lot was an old gristmill dating back to 1800 that still operated until about 1902 when it caught fire due to an incorrectly installed water pump; contemporary photos show only two small columns remaining from original cornice around building which may have been added during rebuild following war years Note: This property including Lot #2 has since been rezoned for commercial use with a 5 story tall buildingpresently visible on lot opposite main house - this building currently contains office space for local businesses etc.) A group of men led by Hosea Huntington purchased 1 block petit lots north of current day Fourth Street and Farnsworth Avenue between Federal Rd./ Milford Rd./US 421 West/I-71 South in 1830 for $1 each; all Lots Nos 93 through 98 are still extant today see map below Just north of present day Fourth Street & Farnsworth Avenue between Federal Rd./Milford Rd./US 421 West/I-71 South there was a large clearing where several buildings stood prior to construction beginning on what would eventually become known as "The Park".There were no streets or roads within this large area so transportation consisted mostly onlyof wagons drawn by horses or oxen teams over difficult terrain . On July 26th 1830 traders from Danville arrived at The Park with 30 bushels ($10 worth)of wheat they had just come downriver From Illinois They planted the wheat near where current day Fourth Street & Farnsworth Avenue stand today making this one of the earliest contiguous plots in what would become Broadview Heights Today's buildings date back to the early 1800s even before development began...
