A group of German farmers arrived in 1793 and started a farm near present day Brecksville and called it "Nachtigall". In 1800, John Beeching established a tannery on the west side of the river near what is now downtown Brecksville. He named it "Beeching's Point" after his brother-in-law Peter Beeching who owned land along the river where this tannery stood today. In 1802, Isaac Brock built a sawmill and grist mill on Main Street which became one of brecktown’s most important economic engines during its early years."
