By the end of the 1800s, optical equipment was becoming increasingly common and required for business. In 1907, Cleveland businessman Harry Wohl founded Wohl & Co., one of the first optical companies in America. This company became known for its high quality products and fierce competition with other manufacturers. With advances in technology, Wohl&Co.'s products became even more advanced and efficient over time. In 1912, they produced their own filmstrip projector which revolutionized movie production. The company continued to grow throughout World War II as demand for movies increased wartime manufacturing efforts.
Brecksville is a small city in northeastern Ohio, United States. The population was 5,818 at the 2010 census. Brecksville is located in the Athens-Middletown, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. A post office called Brecksville was established in 1814, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The name comes from John Breckenridge, who donated land to the town. The first settler of Breckenridge Township (now part of Athens) was James Bickerton. In 1824, Captain George Stephenson built the Erie Canal through Brecksville and other townships including Miamisburg and Dayton on his canal route between Cincinnati and Cleveland. This canal allowed transportation of goods necessary for manufacturing along with passengers and livestock to be transported directly from these cities without having to go through either Cincinnati or Cleveland. The area now known asbrecksville became a part of Athens when that city incorporated on December 17, 1837. At this time there were just six residents in what is now Brecksville; three men and three women named Anna Cooks, Rhoda Belleman, Sarah Jordon and Martha Merrill; all lived north of Main Street on two lots owned by Nathan Bedford Forrest II (later General Ulysses S Grant). In 1840 there were twelve residents; four men and four women named Anna Bowen Smith (widow of Major Basil Bowen), Catharine Gahagan Doyle (widow of Daniel Webster), Lydia Higginson (d widow of Nathaniel Hawthorne) all lived south of Main Street on one lot also owned by Forrest II. Mrs Higginson's husband had died before she married him so she could have an estate after he did not live long enough to receive it under state law then as now - he would have been too old to inherit anything if he had died young like many Americans did back then! Mrs Higginson may have moved into her own home until such time as her property could be transferred to her daughters should they marry wealthy husbands! One downside to living near General Ulysses S Grant during this time period was that everyday you could hear him yell out “from breckstown” which led some people to think he actually resided there! He never actually did reside anywhere close by though...he only ever yelled out that phrase because he felt very frustrated with something or someone about their midst at the time haha! In 1854 Jones & Laughlin started up a furnace business here which helped spur growth within the community over the next few years especially due to its proximity to new jobs being created throughout Ohio thanks largely to Union Carbide Company aka US Steel Corporation Headquarters located just east across I-670 from where we stand today - making BRECKVILLE A CENTER OF INDUSTRY FOR OVER HALF A DECADE!!! During World War II many local businesses active in supplying strategic materials like aluminum cans etc went into production alot due TO THE WAR efforts here at BRECKVILLE procuring materials overseas unlike other parts of Ohio where production stopped once hostilities ceased!!! Some notable products/services produced here during wartime include: Furniture for American soldiers including beds、 wardrobes、 armchairs、 tables、 lamps etc., postwar military vehicles such as jeepsand tanks etc., Aircraft Parts made from aluminum cans filled with high explosives used by Allied Bomber Command during World War II brecksvillenojojonessteel
