Bowling Green is an unincorporated community in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. It is located on the Scioto River east of the city of Cincinnati. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. Bowling Green is part of the Columbus Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to settle in what is now Bowling Green were children of a white family who had moved from Kentucky to make their home in this area. They named their new place after a small town in England where they had been born and raised. The first post office was established in 1853, and by 1865 it had grown to include land east of the Scioto River. In 1889, Congress passed an act providing for a public school system in Muskingum County and its environs; Bowling Green became one of those schools. In 1915, when Ohio became a state, Bowling Green became one of its cities; it has remained so since then. In 2002, Mayor Bob Schieffer spearheaded an effort to annex more land around the city limits so that it could be used as a parkland and open space; this annexation resulted in the current population size of 2,691 residents (1% more than 2001). There are several businesses that have sustained themselves over time outside of retail sales: FirstEnergy Stadium (the home stadium for both the Cleveland Browns and Columbus Blue Jackets), Clifton Park Golf Course and several other private residences within walking or biking distance of each other provide all sorts of opportunities for outdoor activities including fishing or golfing; also nearby are several miles worth of hiking trails making it easy to explore everything that Bowling Green has to offer without ever having to leave your neighborhood.

The first mention of Bowling Green, Ohio is found in 1792 when James Caldwell maps the area. At that time, the town was only a small village. In 1802, Bowling Green became an incorporated town with a population of just over 100 people. The town's first school was built in 1804 and it served as the only school in the community until 1827 when a new school was built. In 1868, Bowling Green became part of Jefferson County and its first county courthouse was built on Main Street. The courthouse remained in operation until 1954 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1912, Bowling Green established its own hospital which still stands today. In 1937, the United States Post Office issued a stamp featuring residents of Bowling Green including Mayor Benjy Fenton and Representative Carl Wessels. The stamp is currently on display at the Historical Society of Akron.
