In 1860, when Ohio became a state, BlueAsh township became part of Jefferson County as well; however, it reverted back to its original name after only two years when it again became part of Portage County due to its location on high ground between those counties and Ottawa County to the northeast. On November 15th 1870 while still a part of Jeffersonshire Co., voters approved an ordinance authorising annexation by Lake Erie City into Jeffco from Ottawa Co.: this annexation resulted in much growth within BlueAsh Township as both city and township officials lobbied for equal rights with their larger neighbor across Lake Erie! The townsite currently contains over 26 acres (10 ha)of land formerly belonging to OttawaCo.; much remains unchanged from that time including many small homes built around 1920s/30s along Shaker Roadstead Drive NW

The town prospered until the early 20th century when it lost its status as a major lumber center due to new industry developments such as petroleum production and automobiles.
