In 1892, Ohio's first optical store was opened in the town of Blue Ash by two men, Hiram and David Evans. The store quickly became a popular place to buy optical products and services. In 1897, the Evans family sold the business to Amos S. Fenton and his son-in-law, Julius Weisbach. Over the next few years, they continued to grow the business with help from their friends and family. By 1914, they had organized their own company and began selling optical equipment through mail order. In 1916, they opened a larger location in Columbus that served as their headquarters until 1957 when they moved back to Blue Ash. They continue to sell optical products and services today through their subsidiaries, including American Optical Company (AO).
Blue Ash is a village in the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Athens County. As of the 2010 census, its population was 9,651. It is located in Northern Ohio on the between Cincinnati and Cleveland Rivers, about 30 miles east of Columbus. The name "Blue Ash" likely comes from an early settler's nickname for a place next to the river called "The Blue Ash." The first white settlers in what would become Blue Ash were James Cook and his family in 1792. Cook had come overland from England with his partner Daniel Boone, who named their new land Grant Township after John Grant, British Ambassador to America at that time. The grant included much of what would become Athens County. In 1805, surveyors named several small settlements around Athens after members of Congress – Thompsonville (later Van Wert), Greenlawn (later Muskingum), Whitehall (later Pickerington), and Highland Heights (today's Strongsville). By 1810 all but one settlement had been abandoned because of lack of water or other difficulties; Grant Township was still unorganized territory. The only township formed until 1828 was Athens Township, which became part of Columbiana County when that county was created from parts of Scioto and Medina counties on November 3, 1827. By 1830 most residents in Grantsville had moved away because there was no water available there either for farming or manufacturing; by then many people living near Cincinnati had also migrated westward as slaves to escape possible slave-market auctions taking place nearby in Cincinnati proper during this period known as the Black Hawk Warbler Migration օIn 1835 a group including three sons and two daughters of Nicholas Biddle founded Biddle Manufacturing Company near present day Utica where they produced cotton clothing until it closed its doors in 1840 due to financial problems օIn 1840 George Washington Carver started Bakewell & Carver Lumber Company near present day Parma which built roads and bridges throughout central Ohio until it folded up shop within 10 years օSome early pioneers such as Isaac Backus established a post office here dated back to 1800 օFrom these beginnings through 1860 Blue Ash grew steadily with waves OF immigrants flooding into its boundaries – mostly German Catholics fleeing religious persecution during the Holy Roman Empire’s Napoleonic Wars օMost notably here were men like Friedrich Dürer who became famous for designing wallpaper products such as “Dürer’s Wallpaper” made out of blue checkersboard

In 1830, Blue Ash became a county seat of Cuyahoga County. The post office moved to Blue Ash from Euclid in 1837 and to Sandusky in 1881. In 1907, Blue Ash's first school was built on the site of today's City Hall Park School District Headquarters Building; it served as the primary school for most of the town’s history until it closed in 1951. In 1960, when Cleveland-Akron annexed parts of Cuyahoga Falls and Sandusky Township*, Blue Ash became part of that new municipality; it remains its only incorporated municipality.* In 2002, Yellow Pages publisher WLW sold its 15% interest in Green Tree Broadcasting Company to Time Warner Cable for $1 billionmaking Blue Ash one of Time Warner's largest cable systems outside New York City and Los Angeles. At that time* also*, Green Tree Broadcasting Company merged with WLW's parent company Yellow Pages Media Corporation to form The WB Television Network*. On July 6th 2017 *The WB Television Network* announced they would be exiting their affiliation with Fox network effective September 17th 2017*. As a result* *BlueAsh will become CW affiliate starting September 17th 2017*.
