Blue Ash, Ohio is a town in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. Blue Ash is the only incorporated community in Trumbull County. It is located on the banks of the Muskingum River west of Cleveland. The name "Blue Ash" originates from an incident that took place in 1812 when Captain Christopher Gadsden and his crew were captured by Native Americans and held as hostages for two weeks. At one point during their captivity, Gadsden's ship ran out of food and water, so he ordered his men to cook what they could find onshore. One day while cooking, someone discovered blueberries and started picking them; thus the name "Blue Ash". AfterCaptain Gadsden's ransom was paid by the tribe in 1814, his family moved to Blue Ash from Jackson Township which they had attacked some years earlier. In 1827 John Crouse founded a post office at Blue Ash with three other farmers – Ebenezer Greenough (1802-1890), Jeremiah Smith (1806-1892) and Levi Coffin (1792-1859). In 1830 Rev. William Hurlbut opened a Methodist church at Blue Ash which soon became known as "The Hurlbut Chapel." In 1881 Charles Goodyear founded Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company at what is now called Goodyear Square in downtown BlueAsh after moving there from Akron where he had been general manager of The Kelley Bros store since 1880. Goodyear Square served as home to headquarters until 1984 when it was made into an office park with a shopping mall adjoining it. In 1905 James Wighton established Wighton Chemical Works near present-day FirstEnergy Stadium in downtown BlueAsh after moving there from Springboro Heights where he had been president of Dayton Electric Supply Company since 1899. Wighton Chemical Works has produced more than 1 million barrels of oil per day since it began operations its production line outside downtown Cleveland for Brown-Forman Corporation in 1922 using opencast mining techniques originally developed by General Electric Research Laboratory engineer Wilbur Ladd Jr.. Today Wighton Chemical Works produces gasoil products including unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel under the trade name Midas touchstone products., as well as many other industrial chemicals used throughout Northeast Ohio

The first people to come to this area were Native Americans who hunted game in the region. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson and his army passed through this area on their way to battle General Wayne at Fallen Timbers Creek. The encounter changed history as Jackson's forces destroyed much of what had been left behind by Wayne's retreating army and this episode helped kick-start American westward expansion. In 1827, white men began trading with the Miami nation located east of Blue Ash creek. This trade led to increased deforestation in central Ohio which made it difficult for farmers to produce food that could support settlements such as Greenfield and Dayton. By 1830, most of central Ohio had become unproductive wilderness because of these factors and Indian Removal began in 1830 under President James Kenedy order that all Native American nations be relocated west of the Mississippi River into new territory known as Oklahoma Territory
In 1814, three brothers, James, Robert and Timothy Ashland purchased the land that makes up Blue Ash Township in Ohio from the Wexford Company. The township was named for the blueberries that were common on the property. In 1826, a post office was established in Blue Ash Township and the first settler to reside in what is now Blue Ash Township was John A. Fitzpatrick.
