Blue Ash is a town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. The community is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. It is located on the edge of Blue Ash Township and public transportation to nearby Cleveland city limits is available through Brown University's shuttle service or by walking. The first Europeans to see what Blue Ash looked like were French explorers in 1622 when they sailed down the Great Lakes and sighted a "stately village" on the Mahoning River about two miles from where Blue Ash now stands. They named it after a small stream that flowed near their shipwrecking party ashore. In 1812, John Cranch founded Cincinnati, Ohio and laid out his township of Greenfield within what was then Butler County with land bought from John Clift and others who had journeyed overland from Kentucky during the American Revolution (the so-called Overland Season). In 1813 Captain Anthony Wayne explored much of what is now northwestern Ohio before his group reached Cincinnati in November 1792 while travelling down the Scioto River via Steubenville - only a few weeks after General George Washington's army had crossed into Pennsylvania at Mount Vernon on July 14,1792. On October 4th., Captains Lewis & Clark passed by Dayton on their way up the Cumberland River which they described as "a very high mountain". Heading northeast along Ironton Creek past Clarksburg about two miles south of today's town center (and just east of where Stroudsburg now stands), he entered Knoxville Heights about three miles below present-day Cincinnati (the capital city then) on September 7th., 1795; thence descending parallel shoreline until reaching its mouth at modern day Toledo Beach on December 3d., 1795." This early mapping established that Lake Erie lay to the northwest and that this bend in the river represented an important trading route for Native Americans moving goods between these regions. Manchester took possession of Blue Ash Township from Greenfield Township in 1825 when it became part of Cleveland following its incorporation as part of that city's central business district under Article V Section 8 thereof ratified by voters plurality vote on November 5th..
