Bexley is a small town located in the northwestern United States. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton-Middletown, Ohio metropolitan area. The town's namesake is Bexley Major, an American Revolutionary War veteran and member of the Township Committee and Board of Education from 1795 to 1800. The first store in Bexley was established by David Tilton in 1802. In 1807, Christopher Columbus Way founded the village of Bexley on land he had purchased from John Clough. The first post office in Bexley was established in 1809. By 1830, there were twelve stores and one hotel in Bexley; it had a population of 1,200. In 1881, George Stephenson donated land to create what became known as "The Village." The village was initially developed into two separate townships: "Barton" and "Fulton". On July 1, 1907, these townships were merged into one municipality called "Bexley." The original name for BexLEY – Willoughby – was chosen because it rhymed with “broom” (the word “willoughby” means “to sweep clean”). However, this name did not catch on among residents so it was changed to honor George Stephenson on December 3rd 1906 after his death at the age of 76 years old. On December 11th 1889 during a meeting held to consider incorporation for the township due to increasing enrollment at school #2 consequent to increased industry within walking distance from all homes situated within said Township boundaries only due to new railroad construction just outside said boundaries no more than 100 yards distant – A vote being taken resulted that recommended against incorporation as all six trustees failed absent but voted against calling special session which would have allowed them their right back should they have been successful therein however failure resulted leading members thereof to recommend adoption instead under authority delegated by Mayor Potter who stated that if any questions arise about this action during future meetings then he will be able to provide written justification thereto should such occur

Bexley, Ohio is located in the southern portion of Ohio and is bounded by the Ottawa River to the east, Dayton to the west, and Greater Cincinnati to the south. The population was 5,818 at the 2010 census. Bexley was first settled by Methodists in 1811. In 1815, it was renamed for Brigadier General James Wilkinson who fought against Native Americans during the American Revolutionary War. The town became a village in 1837, but it reverted to a small town in 1901. It became an unincorporated community again on April 1, 1902. On November 14, 1907 it had its first election as a city and joined the Union City School District. The city annexed parts of Dayton on January 1, 1911 and gained its own police department on February 15 that same year. Bexley experienced rapid growth following World War I when munitions companies moved their production plants here from other areas of Ohio because of wartime shortages of materials such as rubber and aluminum. Manufacturing peaked in 1926 with employment topping 1007 workers; however, this figure began to decline rapidly after World War II due to industry consolidation across America and declines in military wages. By 1960 Bexley employed just over 60 people; however total manufacturing output declined steadily until declining demand led to closure of many factories during the early 1970s; although some remained open until they closed completely around 1980-1985 due to economic recession Lead poisoning became a problem in Bexley due to lead contamination from old lead ammunition used before prohibition ended effective December 6th 1920 The city established itself as an educational center with two colleges (the University of Dayton which opened its doors in 1916) and numerous high school districts serving students from Bexley through Parkland Heights (northwest corner). With few exceptions all public schools were operated by private entities until 1965 when state funding increased for education within city limits via referendum vote while local taxes also increased reflecting population growth rates exceeding those associated with more suburban areas especially north central Columbus In 1967 new mayor John Ewing appointed planner/urban designer Don Weisman as director emeritus position responsible for developing plans for reorganization including comprehensive urban planning program including comprehensive review of zoning ordinances which resulted eventually into establishment of modern downtown area complete with streetscape enhancements only enacted beginning late 1990s displacing older buildings primarily along Third Avenue South initiated largely through collaborative efforts between Mayor Ewing & then City Councilmember Connie Grebe
Bexley was founded in 1792 by John Bexley and the first post office was established in 1815. The city was named for a bend in the River Clyde which is located within its boundaries. In 1881, Bexley became one of the cities that were created from parts of Cleveland.
