In 1865, a group of men from the town of Bexley in Ohio began to make their own shotguns. They called their rifles "gun slings." The first gunslings were made from approximately 12 inches of cable and two or four inch pieces of wood. These gunslingers used them to shot small game out of trees or into other people'syards.
Bexley is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Combined Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Bexley was Nicholas Hoverman on October 6, 1799. He named it after his friend and neighbour William Beeston of Liverpool, England. There are several theories as to who actually renamed Bexley but one has it that John Stephenson (a local lawyer) did so because he found the name too difficult to say and wanted something with a more geographical ring to it. He also changed the spelling from "Bethlehem" to "Bexton". The current spelling of the town was chosen by referendum in 1872 when voters approved a new form of government under which township status would be given to each village instead of being hereditary. Bexley's first settler were George Armstrong and his family who arrived in 1800 from Pennsylvania along with three other families: Hargrave, Ladd and Moody. They built a cabin on the west side of High Street near where present-day FirstEnergy Park stands today. In 1802 they became owners/landholders of what is now North Side Township which had been organized two years earlier by vote among themselves as an agricultural community based on their holdings around high school and other public land grants they received from Lewis Cass (the future US President). The early Methodists came through Bexley in 1810 when Rev James White founded Zion Chapel hereabouts; many people still live there today under that denomination’s name (most notably Rev Dr James White’s widow), including two sets of grandchildren who reside there currently; Judge White’s granddaughters live in Grove City about 10 miles away . . . To this day, many people maintain ties with religious significance within or adjacent communities – whether that be attending services at one local church or synagogue every week or going door-to-door for kosher food – even if they never set foot inside a Methodist church again! In 1811 residents made contact with fur traders living east of Lake Erie through letters sent home by Captain Collinson (of London's Royal Navy) upon learning about Indian land between Muskingum River and Ottawa River available for purchase via treaty negotiations then ongoing between Great Britain and America—the " Tiffany Treaty ". In 1830 carpenter Edward Clark moved herefrom Utica Ohio having married Hannah Shortridge there 3 yrs before while both lived (& worked) near Akron." Clark probably started building homes here soon after moving across country

Bexley, Ohio is located in the southern part of Ohio, about twenty-five miles from Cincinnati. It was founded by two brothers in 1837, John and Samuel Bexley. The town had a population of only fifty people when it was first chartered. By 1840, Bexley had a school and a store. In 1845, the town became the county seat for Hamilton County. The population grew rapidly during the 1850s and 1860s, reaching 2,500 by 1870. However, during the late 1800s and early 1900s, Bexley experienced significant decline due to various factors including suburbanization and economic recession. In 2000, however, it regained its former status as an important community within Hamilton County.
Bexley was founded in 1814 as a small, unincorporated settlement on the southern side of the Ohio River. The town grew rapidly, and by 1834 it had reached its current size. In 1870, Bexley became part of the new city of Cleveland.
