It is located on the Northwest Side of Cleveland, Ohio, just east of Euclid Avenue. The area now known as Bexley was first settled by Native Americans in 1801. A post office called Bexley was established in 1812, and remained in operation until 1959. The community took its name from Lieutenant Colonel George Washington Bainbridge (1814-1892), an early settler who served as a member of the United States Senate from Ohio and as brigadier general in the Union army during the American Civil War. Bexley grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location near downtown Cleveland and became a major transportation hub for northwestern Ohio businesses and citizens alike. In 1907, local entrepreneurs founded Cleveland's first electric streetcar system; this led to growth in employment within downtown areas as well as new suburbs such as Woodmere and Mayfield Heights beyond that line's reach. By 1924, when Interstate 75 bypassed Cleveland entirely and replaced it with a more direct route through town center, Bexley had become one of America's most heavily industrialized cities—growing rapidly despite occasional economic setbacks (e.g., World War II). Bexley, Ohio is a town in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,693 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from a Shawnee word meaning "a place where there are many buffalo." The area that now makes up Bexley was settled by English settlers in the mid-1700s. In 1794, James Kapp made what is now Bexley his home and started to farm land there. By 1800, the town had a population of about 100 people. In 1825, John Bakewell founded what is now Delaware Township in Columbiana County and named it for himself because he had been born in Bexley. In 1828, George Lane formed another township called Clinton Township which also included part of what is now Bexley. The two townships were combined into one in 1838 when they were reorganized as Columbiana County. The first post office in Bexley was established on November 13, 1837; it was moved to its present location on July 3rd of that year. At that time it contained just over 40 inhabitants and served an area including present day Delaware Township and parts of Clinton Township as well as parts of the current Town of Cleveland Heights and part of Akron (then Painesville). The first store built in what is today Bexley was run by Isaiah Morse located on High Street between Winchester Road (now Main Street) and Dover Road (now Woodward Avenue). A new store built south side High Street between Winchester Road and Dover Road opened on October 8th 1840 with a total inventory valued at $569. It closed on December 5th 1840 due to high costs associated with maintaining such an extensive structure (>$200 per week!). On May 4th 1850 Samuel Haggerty opened a general store at 12 Downing Alley which became known as the "Old Store". This store continued operations until 1861 when it burned down due to an accident while being used for storage oil drums! The next business up after this fire was Wm Fenton who operated a grocery shop at 204 North High Street from 1865 until 1870 when he sold his interest to Jno Smeaton who ran it until 1902; during this time period also much equipment used for crushing corn came into use here including lime kilns! It wasn’t until 1901 when GEO bought out Smeaton’s share which led to opening of Geo Fenton’s Market at 305 N High St., later renamed “the First National Bank” where goods could be purchased both inside or outside without having to go through the bank! In 1907 Jno Smeaton moved his business across Euclid Avenue from 301 E High St., then across Euclid Avenue again from 309 N High St., finally moving back onto Euclid Avenue once again from 312 NHighSt.-becoming Geo Fenton's lastStore before selling his interests in 1903! Later changes took place within this community - starting around 1912 “Municipal Hall” began serving more function than just a local post office – becoming not only meeting place but also social hall & jail cell facility; germ warfare testing center began taking place here too according some reports…And finally circa 1925-1927 small brick schoolhouse #2 replaced old frame building located on corner lot off Erie Rd.–stillserving locals thruout 2001 Thanksgiving Day services thanksgiving eve service stopped behind churchThanksgiving day program afterwards continued inside small schoolhouse thru 2000…This building still standing today undergoing renovation/upkeep courtesy OF THE Village
