The Second World War brought about a new era of gun grip usage in Bexley as residents turned to handguns to help fight against Nazi Germany. After the war, people returned to using pistols as their primary weapon choice, but shotgun usage continued until well into the 1970s. It wasn’t until 1976 that rifle usage became popular in this small town after someone purchased a used AR-15 from a local NRA member. Since then, rifles have continue to play an important role in Bexley life as they are often hired out as police officers’ sidearms or used for target shooting at local shoots and events.

Bexley is a city in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 27,741 at the 2010 census. The city proper has a population of 19,693. Bexley is located on the Scioto River and was named after Sir Richard Bexley, an Englishman who built a mill there in 1814. The first settler in what would become Bexley was John Beecham in 1791. Beecham's family moved to this area from Lancaster County two years later. Henry Fenton purchased land near present-day Fenton Park in 1811 and laid out a town square with six blocks of homes and four stores on it. The first post office called Bexley was established in 1816, but it did not open until 1830. In 1824, George Stephenson founded the Manchester Railway Company and began construction of the Liverpool-Manchester Railroad along the Scioto River south of downtown Bexley. This railroad connected Cincinnati with Manchester via Cleveland and Akron; Bexley became part of the company's system when it opened for business on October 1, 1825. The original plat for what would become Bexley was filed December 16, 1827; it included 5 streets (now Five Mile Road), 2 squares (northwest corner of northwest square now eastside Square), 4 lots (southwest corner just east side Two Corners Road), 12 buildings including 3 mills/warehouses/stores (now Allyn Elementary School and FirstEnergy Stadium) and one blacksmith shop/smelter (now Allyn Middle School). On February 12, 1830 Samuel Hubbard bought 5 lots within present day Five Mile Road east of northeast square now southwest square for $160 cash plus costs associated with improvements to make his property habitable for habitation by white people only as long as he continued to own all or part thereof subject thereto forever unsold oruntil sold at public sale by proclamation of President James Kappenbury under power granted him by act entitled "An Act For Suppressing Intolerable Cruelty To Inhabitants Of The United States" which reads as follows: "That no person other than white persons only may live upon any lot within five miles West Side Square adjoining this City." Mr Hubbard offered goods to help pay off his indebtedness to White men only so long as they remained citizens during that time period unsold goods were not taken home without permission from Heckel & Hubbard Storekeepers signifying that these goods were not being used for personal use but rather stored for future resale purposes like all other storeroom items during that time period except Negroes which were then kept segregated back at Heckel & Hubbard storerooms Un sold goods consumed during that time period went into inventory storage hereinafter known as "The Hubbard House". A few weeks later on February 26th 1830 Samuel Hubbard paid taxes amounting to $236 US dollars plus interest payable annually thereafter according to statute number 25 US c 404 et seq . After paying taxes he developed his property described herein parcel number 6 according to plat dated Feb 26 1830 no longer current but still remains extant today map attached showing boundaries between Lots 6 North EastSideSquare SouthWest Corner No Longer Present And Lot 7 NorthEastSideSquare SouthWest Corner Now As Part Of AllynProperty --------------------------------------------------------------- From lot frontage 8 feet wide X 36 feet deep At rear end 8 feet wide By 66 feet deep -------------------------------------------------------------- From lot backage 16 feet wide By 96 feet deep
