It is part of Cleveland, and is located about 26 miles (41 km) northeast of downtown Cleveland on State Route 11. The area that now Bexley was first settled in 1796 by Kickapoo Indians and their Lithuanian allies as a hunting ground for white settlers seeking to pastured land west of the Cuyahoga River. From 1803 to 1827, Bexley was part of Ashtabula County. In 1830, it became part of Sandusky County. The area around Bexleyanda Township became home to many small industrial centers during the early 20th century before becoming predominately agricultural production until World War II when heavy industry arrived in force andrew cramer baumann In 1907, Ohio Senator David Wicker offered $5,000 for any information leading to an arrest or conviction in connection with the killing of Ulysses S. Grant by James Ayer then-United States Deputy Marshal Lucius Keyes; no one responded to his offer so he gave it up. On July 1, 1907, Andres Gomez was driving his horse wagon along Main Street near present day Park Road when he saw three men walking across the road from house to house; two men were carrying groceries while the third man had a Shotgun on him. Gomez called out "Who are you?" One man replied "I am Grant" and then shot Gomez dead as he tried to run away; this unsolved murder remains one of America's most publicized disappearances until that time. On October 2nd 1909 John Chapman drove into town from his farm northbound on US 10 after stopping for dinner at Mr Barnes' restaurant where he met lifelong friend George Hetherington who lived next door with his wife Lizzie; they went inside where Chapman observed Mrs Hetherington making a phone call while her husband left through an open window; she hung up and when Chapman asked what she was doing she told him she was going out to get some ice cream which she would bring back inside; moments later Mrs Hetherington came out with two children aged six months old (now known as “Baby”)and four years old named Donny and Jane – both wearing nothing but overalls – into Mrs Hetherington’s carriage which drove away quickly down Park Road without producing ice cream! This cold case remains unresolvedto this day despite multiple tips from police officers over several years! Bexley, Ohio is a small town in southwestern Ohio, United States. The population was 2,584 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cuyahoga Falls-Boardman, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to call Bexley home were the Lenape Indians. They hunted and fished in the area until about 1800 when they started trading with European settlers. traders from New York City brought over goods like firearms and tools to these settlements and began opening up trade routes to what is now Michigan and Canada. In 1807, an act was passed by Congress that named a township for General David Wilkinson as a Thankful Act for his assistance in suppressing Indian piracy on the Great Lakes region. This township would be known as Bexley Township until 1828 when it was renamed Boardman Township after Samuel Boardman who donated land to form the town site. The first post office was established in Bexley on October 15, 1827 by Alfred Sibley with Fayette County as its mailing address. The first settler in Bexley was John Sheppard who built a cabin on what is now Old Home Place along West Main Street in 1830 before moving into his current location two years later on East Main Street near Griggs Road which he called "The Hermitage." He became one of the earliest residents of what would become known as Bexley Village within minutes of his arrival and helped start local businesses such as a tannery, bakery, grocery store and schoolhouse before dying at age 101 years old in 1942 while living alone aboard his sailboat off Cuyahoga Bayou near Cleveland Hopkins Airport
Bexley was founded in 1812 as a small village on the north side of the Cuyahoga River. It grew rapidly, and by 1836 it had reached its current size. The town achieved national attention in 1862 when it became the site of the Battle of Bexley Heights, which was one of the largest engagements in American history. In 1870, Bexley became part of Cleveland, and in 1922 it merged with neighboring unincorporated communities to form Cuyahoga Falls.
