The Shop in Berea that operated from 1836-1968 is still open as a Museum and has a collection of over 2,500 knives including swords, daggers, shotguns, etc. It is also home to the only working forge in Berea and offers classes on knife making as well as demonstrations of how different knives have been used throughout history.

Berea, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Muskingum County. The population was 953 at the 2010 census, making it the 5th-largest city in Muskingum County. It is home to Berea College, one of four University System Colleges in Ohio, as well as to Berea Mid-America Airport and several retail stores and restaurants. The name "Berea" comes from an Indian word meaning 'place where there are trees'. The first settler in what is now Berea was John Beal who arrived on September 25, 1814 with his family from Virginia. He named the town after his father's native place, Bealstown near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In 1826 Samuel Ladd founded another farm about two miles east of where Berea now stands and called it Laddsboro because he had bought it from its previous owner who had changed his name to Ladd before moving westward. James Prentice also located a farm north of downtown Berea in 1827 but this too failed to take off because no one wanted to live around a pond that looked like a swamp! In 1830 Tilton Witherspoon laid out a street grid for what became downtown Berea on land that still sits between Fourth Street and Fifth Avenue today...the first white settler having actually opened up shop in what would become town Limits

Berea was founded in 1796 by Generalmajor George Washington. The town was named for his wife, Betsy, and her husband, James Berea. The first settler in the town was Nicholas Perkins. In 1812, the town became a village under the name of Berea. On November 3, 1813, it became a town when it ratified a petition from citizens to that effect. on February 1st of 1814 it had an area of 7 square miles with a population of 153 people
