Berea, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Summit County. The population was 19,821 at the 2010 census. The city is named for Berea College, which was founded in 1813 by John Prentice Alford and his wife Sabrina Fleming Alford. The name was given to a stream that flowed through the town. In 1857, residents voted to change the name to Berea after their new college president James Berenshaw Berea. Berea is located in central Summit County on the Scioto River between Athens and Dayton. It lies within Greater Cincinnati metropolitan area and straddles both sides of I-75, making it easily accessible from both north and southbound lanes of the interstate highway system. The downtown core of Berea features two blocks of downtown streetscape with large public buildings including City Hall, police headquarters, firehouse,Arena football stadium (home of the Cleveland Cavaliers), as well as several other cultural attractions such as art galleries and restaurants. As one enters downtown from I-675 east or west, one first finds a mix of high-density housing developments dating back to before World War II with some later additions; most recently updated designs include a variety of mixed-use development called "The Commons". The park district has extensive grounds within walking distance for public use including an Oval (baseball) diamond/parking lot adjacent to its library complex; three basketball courts; a soccer field; 2 sets kindergarten classrooms; 4 sets elementary classrooms; 3 sets senior citizen rooms; 2sets child care spaces (1 full day each); 1set training room used by local law enforcement officers while parked on campus off State Street near Goodrich Park Gymkhana field house). Berea, Ohio is a town in the Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Berea was Nicholas Robinson in 1814. A post office called Berea was established in 1815, and remained in operation until 1903. The town site was surveyed by George Stephenson and named for him on December 17, 1825. On February 15, 1830, a small group of settlers founded the town of Mentor on the east side of what is now Peregrine Heights Boulevard. Mentor soon became an important transportation hub because it had a canal connecting it toAkron and Canton. In 1836, Berea incorporated as a town under the name "Berea." During World War II, many businesses were closed due to wartime production restrictions; however, some continued to operate during the war through their own companies or with government assistance such as supplying food and munitions to allies while remaining open for war workers who needed those services. Some residents relocated during and after the war to take advantage of postwar housing booms that followed throughout most Midwestern cities due to reasonable property prices and increasing density within commuting distance from jobs available outside of city limits (though not always contiguous). Afterward there was much discussion about whether or not Berea should have merged with neighboring townships during this time period since they shared common borders but differed largely in size and population (though Mentor has since regained municipal status). However voters rejected any merger proposal in 1954 After World War II many businesses closed due to wartime production restrictions; however some continued operating through their own companies or with government assistance such as supplying food and munitions to allies while remaining open for war workers who needed those services

The area that is now Berea was part of the Northwest Territory, which was organized in 1787 as a result of the Treaty of Paris between Great Britain and France. The Northwest Territory included present-day Ohio and Indiana. In 1800, the territory became part of the United States.
