Berea, Ohio is a small town in the northwestern part of the United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Berea is located on the Mad River, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) east of Cleveland and about 60 miles (96 kilometers) north of Toledo. It is bordered to the north by Holmes County, to the east by Stark County, and to the south by Lake Erie. The first settler in Berea was John Beecham in 1812. The village was formed from a group of log cabins that were built around 1832 by Ezekiel Chandler and others. The name of the original town site has been variously reported as "Beera" or "Bellefontaine." In 1836, James Aiken laid out a grid plan for what would become Berea according to current boundaries. He named it after his home state of Virginia, where he had been born two years earlier. In 1840, Amasa Stone laid out a road through Berea and founded Stone's Ferry across the Mad River just downstream from present-day Bellefontaine Mall. stone's ferry became one of America's earliest transportation corridors as it facilitated trade between villages on both sides of the river. By 1850, there were over 100 residents living in Berea when it incorporated as a village under law No. 3295 dated November 12th, 1850; this act followed much discussion among residents over concerns about land titles and Native American interference with white settlement in central Ohio during this time period One early resident who attended meetings setting up government was Solomon Greenlaw who served as an Alderman from 1853 until his death in 1865 when he succeeded his father Amos Stone Sr.. Greenlaw also played an important role in developing downtown Berea into one of its major commercial areas early on with several businesses opening their doors including Spiegel & Sons grocery store which still stands today at 5 Main Street; Greene’s Bakery opened its doors at 501 Elmira Road back then too- later becoming known as “Refrigerator” thanks to ice cream sales being conducted there daily during summer months Additionally many homespun stores such as Brown’s Hardware & seed store opened up throughout town soon thereafter with local farmers providing goods necessary for everyday life like food staples like flour & sugar while general storekeepers sold items such as notions and shoes Also beginning around this time frame wagon loads fullof groceries made their way downriver each day headed towards Bellefontaine Mall stopping next door at Gwynns Drug Store before continuing upstream past present day Highmark Pharmacy building into what is now Stateline Place before arriving back at Brown’s Hardware late that evening This busy schedule allowed many people within Bruinville to get involved with politics quite early on becoming active citizens some serving terms on numerous governing boards throughout their lifetimes including streetlight committee responsible for maintaining lighting ordinances within town limits during those dark days following Reconstruction Finally post office operated outfitted with running water services began services within town Limits sometime prior to 1870 however they continue operation currently housed inside present day Belmont Hospital facility . All told these establishments helped build up what would become known collectively as Downtown Berea circa 1850-1920 . Even though Downtown Beea officially ceased operations effective January 1st 1920 following unification all business owners within its boundaries continued operating autonomously albeit without any formal governance until finally that same year when City Council activated ordinance #4483 establishing downtown Beea under city control ans eventually renamed themselves “Berea Township” . Nowadays most residents prefer simply calling themselves “Residents Of Berea” although some may argue there should be no differentiation given current times Featuring increased nightlife options along with increasing economic opportunities overall due primarily thereto having lower taxes rates compared than otherohpwn cities& townships situated nearer&to larger metropolitan areas

Berea is a small town in the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky area, located about 20 miles east of the city of Cincinnati. The population was 3,827 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Berea was Lewis & Clark Clarke, who arrived in 1792. The early residents were farmers and their families. A post office was established here in 1822, and by 1830 it had become a small village with a population of just over 100 people. By 1835, however, it had grown to include a store and 10 homes. In 1838, Berea became part of Ohio Territory due to the Mexican-American War. It remained so until January 1st 1861 when it seceded from Ohio and joined the Confederacy as part of Kentucky’s statehood process. On February 14th 1861, Confederate General Braxton Bragg called for an arms race against Union General Ulysses S Grant because he felt that Grant was weak on defense and could be easily defeated if he allowed Union forces into Kentucky’s cities. On April 12th 1861, Confederate General Robert Easley ordered all businesses in Berea to close because they were not obeying Confederate orders to provide munitions for the military campaign against Union forces invading southern Indiana (the Battle of Fort Harrison). On May 5th 1861, Confederate General Peebles attackedUnion forces at Mechanicsburg Bridge near Berea while they were crossing into northern Indiana; this attack led to the largest battle ever fought on American soil – known as “The Battle of Gettysburg” – which ended with Union victory and over 150 deaths among both sides
Berea, Ohio was founded in 1796 by BC Berea and his family. The city was named for the Berea massacre, which took place on December 14, 1796, when a group of Indians attacked a group of settlers near Berea. The settlers killed all the Indian attackers and burned their village down.
