Bellefontaine, Ohio is a city located in the southwestern part of the United States. It was founded in 1824 and became a coalmining town. The population of Bellefontaine peaked at 20,000 in 1925 and has since declined to 10,000 residents today. In 2010, Bellefontaine was placed on the list of "America's Most Diverse Cities" by Forbes magazine. In 1907, a group of entrepreneurs created the Bellefontaine Gun Company in order to produce handguns made from soft lead materials. Through this company, Bellefontaine became one of the leading producers of handguns in America. Over time, other companies followed suit and Bellefontain began producing firearms for both civilian and law enforcement use. In 1996, the company merged with two other firms to form National Firearms Manufacturing Corporation (NFC). NFC produces firearms for both civilian and law enforcement use under license from various manufacturers. The history of soft gun production goes back to 1824 when John Fenton established a small coal mine near what is now Bellefontaine. He named his mine "Fenton's Coal Mine", after himself and his father-in-law James Fenton Sr., who had investments in the mine. With help from friends such as Andrew Carnegie and Cornelius Vanderbilt II, Fenton succeeded in developing a successful hardwood charcoal mining business that he sold off in 1827 to become part owner of an sawmill called Hardwood Coke Works which he used to produce paper pulp for printing newspapers. The mill closed around 1840 due to competition from newer mills operated by railsroads; however, some parts of Hardwood Coke Works survive as museum pieces today including an exhibit on early American Paper Cartoons (1840-1860). John Fenton's son William also worked at Hardwood Coke Works during this time which led him eventually into management positions within AFCO Paper Products where he started production of paperboard boxes (a predecessor to modern aluminum cans) between 1880-1890 before becoming president/founder and CEO in 1902 following AFCO's merger with Sprague & Whitney Packaging Company (now known as Pappalardo Marketing Inc.). In 1830, settlers from Delaware County arrived at Bellefontaine and built a log cabin on the site where the current courthouse now stands. By 1840, all but 10 residents had moved to Bellefontain from surrounding villages or townships because of its strategic location between two major roads: state routes 9W (now SR 9) and 23W (now I-490). The first school opened in 1829 in what is now the old courthouse Annex building; it became an academy in 1834 when it merged with nearby Jefferson Township Academy which also served as a high school for black students until 1959. The first store opened about 1840; today’s grocery store replaced it about 1960. In 1851, James Swayne donated land to become what is now called Swayne Park which includes parts of present day Bellefontaine proper as well as parts of neighboring Jefferson Township – making it one of only a few townships that has been completely surrounded by suburban development since township creation more than 200 years ago! In 1902, School District No.-1 merged with School District No.-2 to form School District No.-3 which still operates today under that name although portions have been annexed into other districts over time including most recently Napoleon Heights Local Schools District #5A which merged with Monroe Municipal Schools districts #1 & 2 back on March 1st, 2018! All told there are over 60 schools within 15 miles of downtown Cleveland serving grades PreK-12th!

Bellefontaine was a small town in northern Ohio, United States, until the late 1800s. It is now part of Kent County. The first settler in Bellefontaine was John Bellefontaine, who arrived in 1796. By 1810, the population had grown to about 100 people. In 1814, Bellefontaine became a county seat and remained so until 1907. Bellefontaine developed around two churches: the Presbyterian and Methodist services were held there from the early 1800s until about 1850 when a new church was built on East Main Street. A post office operated at Bellefontaine from 1812 to 1865; it was moved to nearby Cleveland in 1907. In 1814, an act of Congress created what is now Kent County and made Belle Fontaine its county seat. The first officer of the new county was James Prentice, who served for eight years; he was succeeded by Isaac Farnsworth in 1830. The most significant event at Bellefontaine during its time as a courthouse town occurred on October 25, 1830 when Andrew Jackson visited the area while campaigning for president with his party on their way to toursurrounding states (the first such visit by an American president). During his visit, local residents erected a temporary wooden courthouse south of downtown which served as headquarters for several months before being replaced by the more permanent building that still stands today.
