Bellefontaine is a small town in Perry County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,090 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portsmouth area. The first gun target in Bellefontaine was located on High Street in 1871. The original target was made from a large oak tree that had been cut down by farmers to make way for their farm land. The target still stands today and can be seen from many homes in Bellefontaine. In 1915, the Bellefontaine Golf Club purchased an old shooting range off of West Main Street which served as their first rifle range. Today, the club uses the range for practice and tournaments as well as hosting events such as amateur golf championships and 5K races. In 1924, Mr. John Waddell donated land to Bellefontaine Village for a public school which would eventually become Bellefontaine Jr./Sr., Middle & High Schools; now known as Central Community School District No 1 (CCSD-1). The school district changed its name to Bellefontaine Township Elementary School District No 1 (BTESD) in 1987 after township status was granted to Belmontayne Township by the state of Ohio under then-Gov. George Voinovich’s “ Toledo Redevelopment Project” legislation passed during his administration. Bellefontaine has enjoyed strong growth over recent decades with more than doubling its population since 1990 alone! One of the main reasons for this increase has been due to annexation by neighboring townships – including Portsmouth – resulting in an overall population increase of more than 50%. This growth not only results in increased employment opportunities but also new housing developments being built or being planned for future development within walking distance of residents’ homes!

The Bellefontaine School District covers most of the town, with primary schools (grades K-12) located east of downtown and intermediate schools (grades 7-8) located west of downtown. Bellefontaine is home to one of America's only preserved 19th century churches, Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church, which opened its doors in 1907 as an Italianate style structure built on a raised platform above a millrace that served as its parish center. In 1974, it became part of the Bellefontaine Village Improvement Association before being sold to neighboring farmers in 2006 who used it as their farmstead museum until 2009 when it reverted back to the ownership of the previous owners who donated it to local history organization Findlay Historical Society after renovation efforts began there in 2007 among other activities associated with its rehabilitation project led by then-president Druey Kinghorn The first post office at Bellefontaine was established on November 12, 1814 by John Capps with six postal notes accepted for service that day. The present post office building at 8 Elm Street dates from 1912 and is one of three surviving buildings from that era remaining within walking distance of downtown Bellefontain today along with several other pioneer businesses such as Wm Higginson’s grocery store built about 1847 adjacent to current day State Route 224 just east side Elm Street between US 22nd Avenue and State Route 224; also Ft Wayne Filtration Works constructed about 1830 on what is now west side Elm Street between State Routes 221/224 & 227/232 near where former US 42 crosses state routes now visible looking south off interstate highway
