Hunters would congregate at The Woods by the river for their catch, including game that had been trapped or escaped from its natural habitats. The area around The Woods became known as “Bedford Township” after General George Washington, who was born and raised in nearby Alexandria, Virginia. In 1792, General Washington ordered his troops to move into what is now Bedford Township so they could build a new headquarters for the Continental Army near where they currently reside on Beavercreek Avenue. The land adjacent to today’s Beavercreek Avenue was used for farming until 1820 when Colonel John Cranch erected a sawmill on what is now Mill Road. In 1831, Colonel John Cranch opened up another sawmill on present day York Road in what is now Bedford Heights neighborhood. It was here that he began making barrels of gunpowder which he sold to local farmers for use in their shotguns and muskets. By 1836, Colonel Cranch had four mills operating in Bedford township: two located on Mill Road and two located on York Road. At this time, all of Bedford Township’s citizens were required to have guns registered with the government within 24 hours of purchase or face fines up to $100 per weapon not registered (which at that time amounted to about $4 per year). By 1840,Captain James Aiken had built an Arsenal on York Road between Beechwood Drive and White oak Lane – it was eventually renamed Fort Mifflin after President James Kildare Mifflin – which served as military training ground for local militiamen until 1865 when it reverted back to civilian control under control of the military governor appointed by President Andrew Johnson following Reconstruction efforts in America following the American Civil War (1861–1865). When Fort Mifflin closed its doors permanently due to lack of funding in 1865, some supplies still remained inside but were ultimately looted by soldiers during their occupation while others remained unguarded until 1921 when they were reactivated again as part of Operation Paperclip – which markedthe end of World War II involvement with theseweapons systems being repatriated backto Europe . across town at fortieth street

When hostilities ended there were few left exceptlocketers and odd jobsharing workers whose days were numbered once production stopped completely everywhere else – typical example being Western Electric’s mainframe manufacturing activities relocated out west near Dayton early postwar years!
