Today, Bedfords are prominent residents throughout the community including on Main Street where they operate several businesses including banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., First National Bank), restaurants (The Grille & Morehouse Tavern & Brewery), medical clinics (New Life Health Services Inc., Stony Brook University Medical Center), a library (Bedford Community Library) and an ice cream parlor called "Ice Cream Social." Additionally, many Bedfords have careers in professional sports such as football players for the Cleveland Browns or basketball players for the Akron Zips; some also own their own businesses or serve on local boards.

Bedford was founded in 1788 by Colonel John Bedford and his wife Deborah. The town grew quickly and by 1820 had a population of 2,500 residents. In 1825, Bedford became the county seat of Medina County. The county courthouse in Bedford was built in 1830 and is still present today. The first school in Bedford was also built in 1830. blinkin' bedford K-8 public school opened its doors on September 1st, 1930. The current building is a Richardsonian Romanesque Revival style structure that was designed by architects Harry Laughlin and Arthur Ashebaugh. In 1836, the Ohio General Assembly passed an act creating Medina County with Bedford as its capital. On December 1st of that year, Governor Nicholas Jerde signed the act making Bedford the new county seat. In 1860, when the Civil War began, Bedford sided with the Union side and lost most of its rural land to Confederate forces. However, it did manage to keep two stores open during the war: one at Main Street and Oneida Lake Road and another at State Route 8 between Goblesville and Independence Heights. The post office continued operating until 1927 when it closed due to budget cuts within the government body called "the Post Office Department". This event led to much bitterness between those who had been using the service for years before (most notably soldiers who were stationed near Bedford) and those who took over after closure ( primarilyBegleyites). Eventually, mail service from Cincinnati resumed without incident beginning on October 1st 1928
