Bedford Heights is a city in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio and is the county seat of Bedford County. The population was 20,539 at the 2010 census, making it the ninth-largest city in Ohio and one of its thirteen counties. It is also home to The University of Akron, which has a total enrollment of more than 46,000 students and employs over 100 people. The first Europeans to visit what is now Bedford Heights were French traders who landed on the Muskingum River in 1696. The land that would become Bedford Heights was then owned by Nicholas Loughborough, a British fur trader who died in 1711. His son John Loughborough took over the land from his father and began developing it into a village called Bedford Falls near where he built his own house on the banks of the river in 1716. In 1815, when Ohio became an Indiana Territory, Bedford Falls was made part of Hamilton Township so that it could be annexed into that new municipality. In 1824, Revs James Ayer (a minister) and Daniel Brown founded The Baptist Church at present-day Park Street and Spring Garden Road in what would become known as "Bedford Heights". That same year they also organized a school district which included much of today's Bedford County including parts of today's downtown area as well as some smaller villages such as Strawberry Plains and North Manchesterville. In 1827 Revs James Ayer donated land for what is now First Baptist Church located on Maple Avenue across from Park Street today; this church still meets there every Sunday morning for worship service beginning at 7:00 am local time! In 1830 Abraham Lincoln Sr., founder grandsonof Abraham Lincoln served as pastor for about 10 years before moving to Illinois permanently due to health concerns; however he continues to be honorary pastor emeritus at First Baptist Church until his death in 2006! After Reverend James Ayer's death in 1825, Revs Samuel Harker took over responsibilities for administering religious services at Stony Brook Academy (now known as York Catholic School) located just east of Park Street - this academy also served as one stop on Reverend Harker's preaching route between Hyde Park (in Cincinnati), Lebanon (in Dayton), Painesville (in Oxford), Athens Junction (near Terre Haute), West Union (near Sheffield), Niles Center (near Toledo) - all while continuing to offer religious education classes through teacher training institutions nearby! In 1830 Isaac Aspinwall built a gristmill downstream from present day Maple Avenue on Whitehall Creek – this mill continued operation until 1907 when it stopped grinding grains because too much water pressure had caused some stones within its walls to break loose! Afterverend Aspinwall's death control passed from his widow Martha Jane Aspinwall to their descendants who operated it commercially until 1974 when it reverted back under government ownership once again!! From 1823 through 1870 many teachers worked at Stony Brook Academy including Dr John Prentice MD who became Superintendent during that time - during those years Graded Schools Act No 25 & 26 were passed providing funding for schools with high proportions or Native American children among their student body thereby allowing these schools directorship without having to go through school board approval!! This policy change helped spur innovation within education by giving Native American students access not onlyto good quality education but also opportunities for professional development.; During Dr John Prentice MD’s tenure nearly 400 rooms were added onto campus making him one of few superintendent’s ever responsible for such large alterations! Dr John PrenticeMD left Stony Brook Academy after several termsof administration due primarily toboth health concerns although he remains honorary namesake even though he no longer resides within town limits!! Mrs JaneAspinwall continued operations adjacent towheeekly until her untimely death suddenly early nite resulting Intracerebral hemorrhage !! Mrs JaneAspinwall leaveWillisAuerger executrixonehalfoftheestateherhusbandacquiredduringhistroublesomeyearsbeforehisdeath!!! WillisAuergerretainedsofaratheestateoversharingwithMrsJaneAspinwallunderthewillowtreehouserule!! This leaves Mrs JaneAuerger sole proprietorofWillisAuerger Estate!!! After long litigation wrangling between wifeand Executor Owensboro Mosque Incorporated v Spence family members resulting inspense orestrictionstothemosqueactivityinthedowntownareawideningfurthereastonthecenterspace!!!! Finallyanorderofchurcheswasgirdedagainstthemosque ruling out any further activity inside city limits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
