In 1830, John Dickson built a small cabin near where Bedford Hills now stands. In 1880, a large factory was built by local businessman Rufus Fenton which caused high unemployment rates throughout much of Ohio during that time period; however, it reopened two years later with new jobs for locals and increased production which led to more tax revenue for the community. In 1907, after World War I ended, many American soldiers returned home from Europe and began moving into what would become known as "the Hilltop". They brought their families with them and started a new era of development within the city limits: subdivisions were developed along freeways leading out into surrounding townships so that people could have easy access to jobs outside of town while still living close enough to be able to enjoy all that Dayton had to offer. It is a small town located along theributary of the Scioto River which forms its border with Lorain County to the north and west and Butler County to the east. Bedford Heights was founded in 1836 by Methodist Episcopal missionaries who settled there after traveling through central Pennsylvania and western Indiana. The name "Bedford" comes from an ancient English settlement that lay on this same bank of the Scioto River. The original settlers were Methodists who erected a log cabin called Bellefontaine on what is now State Route 315 South in 1840. In 1852, they moved their church to what is now Elmwood Avenue and built a new sanctuary, which remains standing today at 94th Street and Elmwood Avenue NW. The first school in Bedford Heights was opened in 1838 by Reverend John Witherspoon, who served as pastor at Bellefontaine until his death in 1841. A second school followed two years later when Reverend James Shields donated land for a schoolhouse on Ridge Road NW near present day Elmwood Avenue NE (now State Route 315). After one year, Rev Witherspoon’s widow donated land for a third school which would serve both Belmont Elementary School (now Elmwood) and Crescent Hill Elementary School before being merged into Bellefontaine’s fourth grade program in 1840 In 1850, white children from nearby Cincinnati were sent to attend schools here while black children from Bedford Township attended schools elsewhere in Lorain County . However, due to financial constraints, all three schools closed within five years except for Crescent Hill which reopened after Congressional action granted it federal funding (). feeder buses ran between Bellefontaine amd Crescent Hill until 1955 when they became ice cream trucks; service ended again six years later when I-271 was constructed through town making it difficult for drivers to reach either school Although Bellevue Baptist Church closed its doors following World War II because of lack of attendance among its members due to rationing during wartime , Bedford Heights has continued uninterruptedly serving its community since then with various churches providing worship services . Today's mainstay may be Bedelia's Bakery & Cafe where residents can purchase pastries or snacks such as muffins or croissants along with coffee or tea hourly ; however some residents still enjoy going out for dinner every once in awhile Bedford Heights experiences many events throughout each year including Harvest Festivals held annually October 1st thru 3rd featuring local Vendors/Artisans selling fresh produce; Dayton fairgrounds hosts several carnivals throughout summer months; variety shows are also common during different seasons like Christmas season etc.; Community Carnival every 2nd Saturday (except July 4th) features games, food booths & activities such as arts& crafts etc., Parade during summertime celebrating Independence Day
