In 1916, when Union Carbide Corporation moved its headquarters from Buffalo, New York to Euclid Avenue in Dayton Township, Ohio they founded what would become their world headquarters. The company has since grown into one of America's largest industrial conglomerates with over 2 million employees worldwide including operations in 23 countries across six continents In 1957, Bedstedts merged with nearby Mayfield Heights which had been established as a separate settlement by early Germans who had immigrated to this area during the mid-19th century following declines in manufacturing jobs near Cincinnati and Toledo due to new American technology advances such as automation Mayfield Heights continued to thrive until it lost its status as a separate community after World War II due largely to military housing needs postwar suburban growth throughout Greater Cleveland . In 1961–1965 it underwent major renovations which added several thousand sq ft (200 m²) for recreational use including an outdoor swimming pool , tennis courts , basketball court , gymnasiums , game room and movie theater . Prior thereto all activity within simply named "Mayfield" took place outside main building.. currently only 5 acres inside main building remain used for sports/recreational purposes

Bedford Heights, Ohio is a community located in the Miami Valley region of Ohio. The population was 9,039 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Youngstown–Warren metropolitan area. The community was founded by farmers and their families in 1892. Bedford Heights is named for General George Washington Bedford, an American Revolutionary War general and delegate to the United States Congress from Pennsylvania. The first residents of Bedford Heights were farmers who had settled along the Monongahela River in what is now Warren Township. They built log homes and started a school in 1892. A small sawmill and grist mill became operational around 1909, but they closed down by 1920 due to financial difficulties. A new town hall began construction in 1923 and was completed in 1926 with funding from local philanthropist John Drysdale Sr.. The building served as the central business district until it burned down in 1984. Population growth led to increases in jobs and housing opportunities throughout the late 20th century, which has helped drive development within Bedford Heights since its incorporation into city limits in 1972. Several high-profile businesses have relocated or been created within the past few decades including Royal Dutch Shell Plc., IBM, Nike Inc., Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, Ford Motor Company’s Lincoln division (now Ford Motor Co.), Coca-Cola Bottling Enterprises Inc., Pfizer Inc., Stouffer's Department Stores (now Macy's), Symantec Corporation’s IT services arm Symantec Solutions USA LLP and Covidien Pharmaceuticals USA LLC among others.
