Bedford Heights is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the southern edge of the Greater Cincinnati area. The population was 11,605 at the 2010 census, making it the second-most populous town in Hamilton County after Covington. Bedford Heights is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area and is also included within its larger city of Cincinnati. The name "Bedford" comes from an old English Parish that lay along this creek named for John Bedford, 1st Viscount Northumberland (1672-1746). When this parish was divided into two townships in 1795 by order of General George Washington, Bedford Heights became part of what is now Hamilton Township. The first settler in Bedford Heights was James Fenton who arrived in 1796 with his family from Cumberland County, Maryland. He built a log cabin on land he bought near present day 9th Street and Elm Avenue. For many years Fenton ran a farmstead which still stands today on what is now called Maxwell Road east of 8th Street and west ofpresent day Roosevelt Road. In 1802 James Fenton married Sarah Goodrich who came to America with her parents from England via Liverpool on July 12th, 1800. They settled down on a farm four miles west of where they currently live off Roosevelt Road between 7th and 8th Streets NW near present day Springdale Cemetery Sarah Goodrich &James Fenton had six children: Mary (1802-1892), William (1804-1891), Daniel (1806-1881), John (1808-1860), Francesca (baptized December 6th 1830) and Harriet JANE GOODRICHFORD alias HARRY BAKER alias HARRY LEE alias HARPETH ALLEN January 10TH 1811 – November 5TH 1884) died young before reaching adulthood or having any known descendants living today In 1821 James Fenton married Rachel Stroud who came over as an indentured servant with her parents from England but later changed her surname to Bedford due to religious beliefs against intermarriage with European Americans at that time . They eventually moved back to England when their husbands death allowed them to do so . Rachel Stroud bore six children: Sarah Jane(baptized October 21st 1824 - died unmarried 1840 ), Henry Alfred(baptized March 26 th 1830 - died unmarried 1861 ), Edwin Augustus(died unmarried 1865 ), Caroline Amelia(baptized June 24 th 1829 - died unmarried 1861 ),and Alfred Ernest(died unmarried 1865 ).Henry Alfred &Caroline Amelia were raised by their father together until he died leaving them both orphans at age 20 years old while Edwin Augustus lived most likely with his grandparents until he turned 21yrs old and joined up w/the army during the American Civil War There are no direct descendants living today either through marriage or adoption but there are indirect descendants through marriages between cousins or other relatives
