Bedford Heights is an affluent community located in the Cincinnati metropolitan area, about 20 miles north of downtown and 15 miles east of the University of Cincinnati. The population was 19,827 at the 2010 census. The community was founded in 1881 by Samuel Bedford and his wife Emma. They named their children after different areas in England which they had visited while on vacation. In 1911, Samuel Bedford donated land to the city for a public park. The City of Dayton acquired part of the property in 1924, and also built a firehouse on it. In 1925, Edwin Sisson purchased all of the lots surrounding Bedford Heights for $3,500 cash from Samuel Bedford himself. He began developing what is now known as Sisson Park into one of Dayton's most valuable neighborhoods with tree-lined streets and well-manicured gardens. One notable resident who lived in Bedford Heights for many years was Dr. Franklin Dyson who became a leading scientist at UC Berkeley and also taught at nearby Case Western Reserve University before moving to Berkeley in 1966 where he currently lives

Bedford Heights is a community located in the city of Cleveland, Ohio. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. Bedford Heights is one of twelve villages in the Cleveland-Akron metropolitan area, and it is part of the Greater Cleveland region. The history of Bedford Heights dates back to 1796 when four families from Bedford Township moved to what is now Bedford Heights from rural areas in southwestern Ohio. The original town site was on what is now Trumbull Avenue. In 1824, John Quincy Adams sold 1/3 interest in the township to George Washington Bidwell for $5 per acre. That gift set off a long series of land donations by prominent Creek and Mennonite settlers who founded many communities in central and southern Ohio including Bedford, Winton Hills, Berea, Mentor and other namesakes today. In 1836, Jabez Griggs donated 375 acres (16 hectares) north of Trumbull Avenue for a cemetery and village center which became known as Griggsville after Jabez's brother-in-law Moses Griggs Sr.. Esther Baird added 100 acres (40 hectares) east of that in 1849 for a schoolhouse and two stores which were later renamed Ohsweken Schoolhouse and Baird House. The first post office opened in 1865 under the name Ohsweken with Samuel Chapman serving as its first Postmaster General. The name changed to Bedford Township on February 14th, 1870 after President Ulysses S Grant granted township status to all 6 municipalities withinCLEVELAND METROPOLIS LOCAL GOVERNMENT DISTRICTS— defying objections from neighboring Medina Township which had been established only 2 years earlier without township status! Thanksgiving Day 1886 saw an influx of some 535 residents when Peter Kapp donated 160 acres (60 hectares) northwest of town on his farm called "Anaconda" for a Methodist church and graveyard; this became known as Kappstown after him. For many years there was no landlord or tenant system because each family pooled their resources to build roads and bridges etc., operating essentially like communal farms until 1947 when property values began skyrocketing due largely to suburbanization following World War II! Population growth accelerated rapidly during the early 1950s through out suburbanization process culminating with over 10% increase by 1960!! Considerable progress has been made since then but much remains undone including increased crime rates resulting from high densities along highways such as I-675 between Cleveland & Akron….the continued decline & loss of jobs sector has resulted in large percentage decrease (& shift towards services) !!!
Bedford Heights was once a thriving community of around 2,000 people. The area now known as Bedford Heights began to grow in the early 1800s when land became available for farming and development. In 1828, the first post office in the area was established and by 1830, Bedford Heights had a population of around 100 people. The town quickly grew because of its location on the border of two major railroad towns – Dayton and Cleveland. The village's growth continued until the mid-19th century when advances in transportation led to a decline in production in the agricultural sector and an increase in industry. This change led to a decrease in population at Bedford Heights, which only increased during World War II as factories were brought into operation. In 1950, Bedford Heights experienced another significant change when it became part of the newly formed Hamilton Township. This move allowed for more housing development within the town limits and helped make it one of Ohio's most growing municipalities. The town has remained relatively unchanged since then, with its current population numbering just over 140 people.
