The area that would become Bedford Heights was originally called Willoughby Hills after two brothers, William and Isaac Hill, who bought land there in 1813. The name was shortened to Bedford in 1846 when a post office was opened at Bedford Mills (now part of the Playhouse District). In 1892, the United States Post Office moved from its original location near Euclid Avenue and Third Street to what is now Elmwood Avenue between Boulevard and Cemetery Streets. The community developed rapidly due to its location on large tracts of undeveloped land near Cleveland's then-industrial centers. In 1916, developers Harry Laughlin and Lewis Mumford purchased 4,000 acres (16 km2) along Beaver Road for $12 million; they named it Bedford Heights after their home town of Bedfordshire in England. The area grew quickly because it became accessible via streetcar or bus service from Downtown Cleveland as well as from other industrial areas northeast of Cleveland with new factories being built throughout the 1920s and 1930s. During World War II, many residents worked in munitions plants around Northeast Ohio; some continue to do so today as suburbanites move into older neighborhoods such as Bedford Heights. Consequently, many homes were demolished during wartime efforts to build more housing within bounds set by planners who thought Akron's streetcar system would be inadequate for accommodating an additional 100,000 people within five miles (8 km) of downtown by 1945. However, since postwar times there has been steady development including new housing developments such as River Run North which replaced much old stock in 2003-2004 followed by Oak Park Crossing which replaced most of Riverrun North in 2006-2007; both developments are anchored by cultural institutions such as The Art Institute Of America on East 90th Street and John Lennon Center on West 180th Street adjacent to Lake Erie Naval Station(formerly BEACH). Other recent developments include Stiles Place Apartments on FirstEnergy Drive adjacent to Saint Ignatius Jesuit High School & Community College - oneofthelargestapartmentsintheschooldistrict--in2011andtheSearchlights Apartment complex across FirstEnergy Drive from Stiles Place just eastofFirstEnergyDriveandwestofLake Erie Naval Station(formerly BEACH). These recent developments have helped contribute significantlytochanging Bedford Heights' demographics while preserving much historical architecture

Bedford Heights, Ohio is a small town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Bedford Heights has been a community for over 100 years and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns in Stark County. In 1836, surveyor Ebenezer Wright laid out what would become Bedford Heights on land that he purchased from John White. The town was founded as a log cabin village named after General Israel Bedford who fought in the War of 1812. In 1847, the village of Bedford Heights incorporated as aTownship with a population of just 10 people. A few years later it had increased to 50 people and by 1860 it had reached 200 residents. At this point it became clear that more development was needed so the Township took on many different forms including an Agricultural School (1861), A Masonic Lodge (1863), A Post Office (1872), A Fire Department (1876), A Library (1910) and finally an Arena/Golf Course (1964). In 1924-25, when Columbus annexed much of Stark County - including parts of nearby Dayton - Bedford Heights saw its first growth as part of the new municipality. With more than 2200 residents by then, businesses quickly began to open up and soon enough there were Streetscape Preservation Committee meetings being held monthly to keep track of all the changes taking place in what would become known as "The Village". The last such meeting was held on November 6th 1984 which marked the end Of an era for Bedford Heights! Today's Bedford Heights is still home to many OFSTED schools and businesses; however due to annexation by Columbus in 2004 all but two streets within its borders have now been renamed "Columbus Boulevard" or something similar- further indication that this once thriving community has long since Passed into history...
