The name "Beavercreek" is from the Shawnee word beavers, meaning "winding river." The city was founded on January 12, 1825 by General Anthony Wayne and Captain James Kincaid as part of the Shawnee Reservation. It was named for Beaver Creek which ran through it. The first settler in Beavercreek was Samuel Beecham who built a cabin on what is now Beaver Street in 1827. A mill built by John White and others soon followed along with a schoolhouse and other buildings around 1830. The town grew rapidly and by 1840 had a store, four churches and over 100 residents. In 1851, when Ohio became a United States Territory, Beavercreek became its capital under Governor Robert Yates Gage. In 1861 it was renamed Dayton following the American Civil War victory over Confederate forces at Battle of Fort Donelson near Chattanooga, Tennessee In 1865 it lost its capital to Columbus after Confederate General Robert Ewell's army occupied Dayton while withdrawing from West Virginia to Cincinnati amid news that Abraham Lincoln had been elected president

Beavercreek is a city in the northwest part of Ohio, United States. The population was 9,746 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Beavercreek County and was formed from parts of Union Township and Summit Township on November 3, 1827. The name "Beavercreek" comes from a Shawnee word meaning "burrow." In 1860, General Ulysses S. Grant, who had been appointed military governor of Ohio by President James Buchanan, visited Beavercreek and recommended that the town be called Grantville after him. The first settler in Beavercreek was George Washington Bryan who arrived on October 5, 1813. He built a log cabin near what is now downtown Beavercreek while still living with his family at the old Whetstone Farmstead. In 1814-1815 two more families moved to Beavercrikee from Orchard Township: Isaac Higginson and John Sawyers. By 1840 there were twenty five families living in Beavercreek; eleven of which were farmers and thirteen were mechanics or tradesmen. The growth of farming around this time allowed for increased demand for goods brought overland by wagonloads from points eastward such as Cincinnati and Pittsburgh through Cleveland on the Great Lakes region. This led to an increase in transportation costs which made it difficult for small businesses to compete against larger ones without abandoning their operations altogether or moving out of state altogether. As a result, many small businesses closed down during this time frame while others merged or relocated to become bigger enterprises because they could not afford not to operate anymore given present economic conditions
The region around Beavercreek, Ohio was first settled by the Algonquins in the early 1800s. The area today is home to a number of Native American tribes, and the town was founded in 1814 as a result of land purchases from the Potawatomi tribe. In 1825, Beavercreek became part of the Northwest Territory and was named for General John Sevier Beecham, who had commanded British forces during the War of 1812. The town grew rapidly after it was established and by 1830, it had a population of 1,500 residents. By 1840, however, Beavercreek had reached its peak and boasted a population of 5,000 residents. During this time period, Beavercreek became known for its manufacturing industry and its political prominence. In 1850, however, Beavercrike began to decline as waves of immigration began to arrive in Comparison to other towns in the Northwest Territory. This trend continued until 1861 when it merged with neighboring Toledo into the newly formed Toledo Valley Authority.
