Beavercreek is a city in Portsmouth, Ohio, United States. The population was 20,906 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Portsmouth County and the most populouscity within Beavercreek Township. The first settlement in what is now Beavercreek was made by pioneers who arrived in 1824 from Kentucky. In 1828, Solomon Pratt founded the village of Beavercreek on the Scioto River near modern day Geauga Heights. The first post office was established in 1830 and it remained open until 1903. In 1837, James Kelling bought land at what is now State Route 131 and built a log cabin known as Kelling's Ferry Landing on the Scioto River. By 1840, Kelling had moved his family to Beavercreek and built a large home on what today isState Route 131B. In 1843, he married Rachel Hillman and they began to operate a mercantile business which continued until their death in 1931. During World War II, many local businesses closed due to wartime shortages of materials but many remain standing such as Joe's Pizza Hut which complex still stands today after undergoing multiple renovations over time including adding an indoor pool for public use during summer months (now called Joe's Aquatics). A number of factories were located along State Route 131B between 1945-1952 when much of that area became residential developments including Malleable Metal Works (now part of Proctor & Gamble), American Weighing Company (now Jiffy Lube), Dow Chemical Company (former Alcoa) among others . After years of decline throughout the early 21st century there has been recent growth with new development occurring along US Routes 81/231 as well as re-opening of some older industrial sites such as Malleable Metal Works relocating its operations to Beechcroft Township whereupon it grew into one of Pittsburghs largest employers prior to its sale to P&G earlier this year . Partially because these growth areas have not suffered significant job losses during tough times like those experienced across much of Northeast Ohio during the Great Recession there are concerns that this trend may continue or even worsen should economic conditions improve overall .
