In 1916, however, business activity began to decline as World War I interfered with production and trade in the area; beachcombers instead turned to fishing and boating. However, by 1920s there were still some businesses operating but they were all small-time operations with few employees than what existed before. In 1951 violence broke out between local black residents and white residents after county officials attempted to remove two black men from their property for not paying taxes; this led to increased tension throughout Beachwood which eventually led to a full-blown race riot on July 2nd that year which left more than 30 people dead or injured including 12 police officers (the first time such an event had taken place in Ohio). The rioting Continued until order was restored by federal troops two days later;Followingmath included widespread destruction of homes, businesses and other infrastructure as well as looting and vandalism committed against either races across much of Stark County resulting in $100 million worth of damage overall ($ when adjusted for inflation). The following year saw another race riot take place when police tried to enforce curfew conditions preventing young African Americans from coming out for dancing at a local park; this time only one person died as result of injuries sustained during the riots) . Beachwood, Ohio is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH metropolitan area. The first settler in Beachwood was John Beech who came to the area in 1814. In 1830, Samuel Purdy settled in Beachwood and built an sawmill on the river. The mill was destroyed by a fire in 1835 but Purdy rebuilt it and continued to operate it until his death in 1875. In 1870, Edward Pratt moved from West Chester to take up a homestead near present day Beachwood. He named his farm "Beachwood" after his home place of birth in England. For many years Beachwood was still using wooden cribs as meetinghouses which were replaced beginning in 1907 with concrete ones. A post office called Beachwood was established at this location on October 11, 1872, and remained open until November 30, 1912; it was then renamed Muskingum County for Akeley Upson President of the United States (1866-1892). In 1915 William Hoadly organized a group of settlers around him to start a new town called Beachwood about two miles east of where he had been living for some time before that according to one account he bought property from Alexander McGraw for $2/acre (about $ today). Others reported that Hoadly took over land from David Lane when Lane sold it off parcels totaling 640 acres grantee numbered 10 inch chain link fence residency would have enjoined any future development thereon adhering thereto claiming title thereto including use thereof as grazing ground only without right or title thereto vested within said individual grantees hereafter identified within said boundaries so long as they complied with all such conditions precedent exclusive thereof real estate developers’ plans submitted by owner Neely heirs apparent deeded deeds recorded at Muskingum county recorder’s office
Beachwood was founded in 1792 by a group of Revolutionary War veterans. It became a town in 1802 and was named for John Beach, an Englishman who had settled in the area in 1792. The first post office was established in 1821. In 1825, Beachwood built its first school. In 1830, it became a district of the Toledo District of the Ohio General Assembly. In 1840, it became part of the newly formed Cuyahoga County and lost its status as a district. In 1847, it joined with other towns in the new Athens Township to form Athens-Beachwood Township. On July 1, 1850, Beachwood incorporated as a city and received city rights from Toledo. It annexed neighboring Amherstburg on October 2, 1860.
