The history of binoculars in Beachwood, Ohio begins with the development of these devices by two men. In 1827, Nicholas-Jacques Conte patented a design for a binocular that he called the "Conte-Net." This device consisted of a small lens placed over a small opening and used to watch objects at a distance. The first production models were made by C. H. Kapp and Company, which manufactured them from 1828 to 1830. From 1830 to 1836, John Fenton manufactured binoculars for the American market. These models were known as the "Fenton Globe." The first successful use of binoculars was made on July 4th, 1836 when United States Marine Commodore David Dixon used them to view the fireworks display in New York City. On December 15th, 1840, British Admiral Sir John Hawkins used binoculars to observe during his attack on Fort George at Charleston Harbor. In 1851, brothers Charles and Edwin Pyle developed an improved version of their Fenton Globe that they called the "Pyle Globe." This model featured an extra large lens that could be used for viewing very closeups or telescopic views. After Charles Pyle's death in 1865, his brother Edwin took over production and continued to make this model until 1902. From 1902 until 1907, Harry Elmer White producedbinoculars for Sears Roebuck and Company under the name "White Star Line." During World War I (1914-1918), Allied forces utilized binoculars extensively as part of their battlefield reconnaissance efforts. By 1945, there were more than 2 million pairs of binoculars in use worldwide!
Beachwood is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,848 at the 2010 census. Beachwood is located on the Sandusky Peninsula, northwest of downtown Cleveland. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Beachwood were Dutch settlers in 1614 and 1615. English colonists arrived in 1788 and renamed it after a nearby cape called Beech Wood. In 1812, the village of Beachwood was organized as a township by order of President James K. Polk under the name "Sandusky". On December 1, 1837, Beachwood became a city when it seceded from Sandusky Township and incorporation into Cleveland as an independent city with its own government and police department. In 1920s-1930s much business activity took place at Beech Run Shipyard on Beech Street between Sixth Avenue and Euclid Avenue due to its proximity to shipping portage points on Lake Erie which allowed easy access for goods coming into Cleveland from all over the world. The shipyards closed in the 1970s but their remains can still be seen today around milepost 127 on I-71 near Berea

Beachwood is a town in Athens County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It lies at the junction of State Routes 22 and 23 and is bordered to the south by Inverness and to the north by Willowick. The first permanent settler in Beachwood was Isaac Beattie in 1811. By 1825, there were six families living in Beachwood. At that time, only men could vote and there were no schools or stores in Beachwood. A post office was established in Beachwood on December 8, 1830, under the name of Delaware Township. In 1837, Peach Bottom Road (now US-22) was built through Beachwood from Willowick to Athens Junction. This road greatly increased trade between Athens and Wooster and helped promote growth within Beachwood. In 1840-41 beachcombers constructed a "beachcott" on high ground near present day Weir Avenue for storage of goods brought overland from Wooster during harvest season. During this time early residents also built their own homes with logs taken down from nearby woods which they re-erected when necessary due to weather conditions or other emergencies while away at work ashore such as mining camps set up along the Great Lakes during that era. By 1860, most of what is now downtown Beachwood had been laid out with small covesapple orchard located on Main Street east of Third Ave., two churches (the First Baptist Church dates back to 1836 and replaced an earlier building burned down), three stores including one operated by Benjamin Hanks (1850–1914), a schoolhouse (grades 1 through 12), a blacksmith shop/forge where nails were made possible with hand tools using local coal mined near where present day Weir Avenue crosses Putnam Creek - just east of today's parade ground -a millinery store run by Mrs Fenton (1859 – 1922) next door to farmer John Prentice's house as well as residences for about fifty people including Mr Prentice's daughter named Sarah Jane who married George Dyson around 1868; some later added additional buildings such as an engine house used intermittently until 1903 when it was destroyed by fire; several shotgun houses northeast corner Third Ave.; many farm animals pastured around property today including pigs, horses, cows and four chicken coupes hatched circa 1900 onsite - all except one which drowned after being left tethered outside during heavy rainstorms years ago; finally a few homes still standing posteriorly off 3rd Ave., notably those belonging to Mrs Ladds (later Mrs Reeder) late 1800s who also ran her grocery store adjacent thereto before it closed circa 1930 although she did not live long enough to see it finished All told these structures housed about 220 people according as early 1870 Census lists list twenty five head householders plus their families residing therein making it quite an intimate community then unlike even today where single family dwellings make up almost half of total housing units . . . much like our own Hawkinsville community situated just minutes away neighboring Lynchburg townshipvisoroville ohio Today’s Downtown BeachWOOD has developed primarily due to its location close proximity to important transportation hubs such as I-675 & I-71A both coming into town via US 22nd St., just 2 blocks away! With so many things available closeby like restaurants & bars right across the street from both sides of 3rd Ave., businesses have quickly begun popping up all throughout downtown befitting “The Town That Rocks” motto! The revitalization project started back in 2001 following damage done by Hurricane Floyd! A group led by Mayor Tomislaus hired crews responsible for repairing sidewalks & streetlights throughout downtown followed shortly thereafter with installation of new girders allowing more than twice daily traffic flow without fear of getting backed up! Businesses have thrived since then thanks largely To city council approval for various infrastructure projects totaling $24 million dollars funded thru bonds issued subsequent…. Beachwood is a village in and the county seat of Beachwood Township, in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Toledo metropolitan area. The town was laid out by Adam Gawthrop in 1810 as a farming community on the west bank of the Maumee River. In 1827, Beechwood became a village when it incorporated as part of the greater Toledo Area. The first post office was established in Beechwood on December 12, 1830. In 1835, Beechwood voters approved a $125 school fund that was used to build and operate a new high school. On October 15, 1856, Beachwood voters passed an ordinance providing for township government with four trustees instead of one elected at-large like those existing in other Lucas County townships. On November 3rd of that year residents voted to annex Beachwood Township into Lucas County so as to allow for more rapid development within its boundaries without having to go through another referendum campaign. This annexation would later be undone when township trustees refused to sell land to developer John Pritzker for use as a shopping mall because they felt it would restrict their authority within their own township limits. Beachwood has had two mayors since its incorporation: George Wickersham from 1923 until his death in 1929 and Art Rankin from 1959 until he resigned after being impeached by the Ohio General Assembly over corruption allegations which led to his impeachment trial and removal from office; both men also served terms unopposed before leaving office due to termlimits set by then-Govt leader Maurice Stonington (R). rankin's successor Lora Jane Goode served two terms before she retired effective July 1st 2009; her second term ends on September 30th 2021 with no possibility of re-election due to termlimits set by then-Govt leader Sharon Conway (D).
