Bay is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,751. The city is the third-largest in Lucas County after Cleveland and Akron. Bay's economy is based largely on businesses that produce agricultural products such as apples, pork bellies, wheat, soybeans, and corn; manufacturing; and tourism. The first Europeans to visit Bay were French traders in 1692 who named it "Biai" (bay). An early settler was James Prentice who arrived in 1796 from Pennsylvania with his family. He erected a log cabin on what is now State Route 248 about two miles east of present day Bay City. The first post office in Bay was established on October 5, 1800 by Nicholas Jourdain with the name "New France." In 1801 John Strode moved to Bay from Lima, Ohio and began trading goods with France along the Great Lakes region before becoming a justice of peace for Lucas County in 1805. In 1810 he built an gristmill near present day intersection of SR 248 and SR 612 which became one of many mills that dotted bay during its early days as an agricultural community typified by large scale slave labor plantations run by wealthy white families such as those at Appaloosa Hills Estate near Rochester Hills Michigan where enslaved Africans worked alongside their owners for hundreds or even thousands of years according to some historians In 1860 there were only 12 residents living in Bay when statehood was granted to Ohio In 1840s there were over 100 small farmers living around bay including several thousand slaves working on large plantations across central Michigan In 1870 there were just 10 residents living in bay when US Steel Corporation established a steel plant adjacent to state line producing 300 workers including slaves working until 1865 inside Biloxi slums close to river mouth

Bay is a town in Jackson Township, Bay County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus Metropolitan Area. The first European settlers in Bay were Nicholas and Nicholas' Children who arrived on a small schooner called "Nova" on October 6, 1795 from Rhode Island. They were followed by John Sutter and his family who came October 9th, 1800 from Santa Clara Valley, California. On July 15th 1801 George Stephenson erected a sawmill and gristmill in what is now the town of Bay Village. The first post office was established in Bay on December 12th 1802 by Lorenzo Dowling with the name of "New London". In 1821 the village was renamed "Bay City" to honor General David Denny's victory over American forces at Battle of Fallen Timbers which occurred near present-day Cleveland. In 1836 Daniel Webster became Governor of Ohio and proposed that every town within 10 miles (16 km) be granted a charter to operate a school district. Bay City passed this proposal with no opposition and received its charter on March 6th of that year. On November 5th 1830 James Kapp donated land to the city for use as an open parkland area including what is now State Street between Highways 22 & 24 south of downtown Bay City (now Donaldson Road). This donation made possible the current location of State Street Park which opened in 1863 east of downtown Bay City across from where Whetstone Lake once sat also just north of today's intersection between Highways 422 & 424 North side Of Downtown Bay City
