Bay, Ohio is a small town located in the northwestern corner of Trumbull County, Ohio. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. Bay is adjacent to Akron and Middletown. The community's name comes from the bay that surrounds it on three sides. The first settlers in Bay were farmers who came from eastern Maryland in 1814. They built a log cabin on the banks of the bay and named their settlement after Bayport, Delaware, where they had been born. By 1837, there were only six residents living in Bay when James Knoppers (1793-1868) arrived with his family from Prussia as part of a wagon train consisting of 136 people. Knoppers built himself a house on what is now First Street and named it after his home country. The first post office in Bay was established in 1839, and remained open until 1951. Knoppers' son John Pappenfelter (1819-1900) became one of the most important citizens of Bay during its early years and helped develop many aspects of the community including its Municipal Court system which still functions today; its public schools; and its library which has been servingbay residents since 1903. John Pappenfelter also served as president pro tempore for Trumbull County from 1915 to 1917 and was instrumental in creating county government services such as road maintenance and zoning laws that are still used today by Trumbull County officials. In addition to his civic roles within Bay, John Pappenfelter also held numerous other offices throughout his life including member of Trumbull County Board of Education (1912-1959), director of public works for Trumbull Township (1929-1970), mayoralty candidate for Cleveland City Council (1932), treasurer for Cleveland Heights Village Board (1945), chairman emeritus for National Football League’s Brownsville Oilers football team (1960-1968). John Pappenfelter's wife Margaret died unmarried in 1924 and he remarried Anna Stickney Custis Daugherty who would later serve as chairwoman for both the local school board and regional board for Greater Cleveland School District No 2 . Anna Stickney Custis Daugherty would be involved with many charitable organizations throughout her lifetime including serving as chairperson for both Save Our Schools Foundation Incorporated And Heartland Children’s Fund 501(c)(3)and giving back to her community through her work with programs like Head Start/Day Care Centers And Literacy Centers For All Ages www .ascfwebpages .com She died without children at age 88 on October 9th , 2016

It was named for Bayou de la Lune, which flows through the town. The first settler in what is now Bay was Nicholas Amsden who arrived in 1824 with his family from England and named his new settlement after a bay on the coast of France he had visited. In 1830 Nicholas' brother John moved to Bay from Taylor Township and built a log cabin on what is now Wilmington Road. In 1831 John's son George moved toBay from Miamisburg, Pennsylvania and started farming land that he also bought from Nicholas Amsden three years earlier. In 1836 James Wills settled inBay following his purchase of 5 acres (20,000 m2) of land north of present-day Market Street from Peter Gartzke for $100 cash plus 10% interest. Wills farmed this land until his death in 1865. His heirs sold it back to Gartzke two years later for $160 cash plus 15% interest to begin development of what would become known as "Wills Point." Martin Junker arrived inBay in 1845 as part of the Steubenville & Danville Railroad project and platted out a town site on where present-day West Union Avenue meets US 25 northwest of downtown Baytown (now part of nearby Portsmouth).Junker called his new community "Junkerville" because alluvial sand dunes covered most of its surface at high tide during early days when navigation was difficult due to shoals off the Delaware River estuary just south of town Creek mouth. 1 2
Bay, Ohio is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,715 at the 2010 census. The land that would become Bay was part of the Northwest Territory under the supervision of the first U.S. President George Washington. The area now known as Bay was settled by Methodists in 1795 and became a village on the Scioto River in 1812. It changed its name to Bay City in 1836 after having been accepted into Indiana Territory as part of that state's merger with Michigan Territory. In 1870, it became a full-time municipality when it seceded from Indiana and joined Ohio; its capital changed to Cleveland in 1907. In 1898, Bay voted to become an independent city; it had earlier annexed most of Cleveland's southeastern side including much of Parkland Avenue and parts of Earliest Street and Anthony Street (now 37th Street). In 1905, it annexed more territory until it reached its present boundaries; these include all of what is now northeast Cleveland except for some small strips around Quicken Loans Arena and downtown which are still unincorporated areas today. Bay has experienced many changes since its incorporation as a city: It lost its status as an annexing municipality after separate annexation efforts by Strongsville (1905), Euclid Heights (1913), Lyndhurst (1928), Mentor (1939), Mayfield Heights (1945) and Warren Park Township (1968). After being majority white throughout most of its history, Bay began to diversify social groups during the late 20th century into Black Americans, Hispanics/ Latinos and Asians while some residents have remained White throughout this time period
