Bay, Ohio is a small town located in the southwestern corner of Trumbull County, Ohio. The population was 5,739 as of the 2010 census. Bay is one of sixteen townships in Trumbull County and is bordered by the cities of Enfield to the north, Fairfield to the east, and Sharon to the south. The town was founded in 1812 by Captain John Baynton and his family on land that had been donated by Colonel William Tiffin. The first school was built in 1815. In 1870, Bay voted to secede from Trumbull County and form its own township; it has since rejoined Trumbull County. Bay has a rich history that includes several incidents which have helped make it an important community today. The first incident occurred when Captain John Baynton's son-in-law, Samuel Wellesley, fought with General Israel Putnam during the War of 1812. This event made Bay a nationally known figure and increased residents' support for him during his campaign for reelection as Mayor of Trumbull County in 1816. Another famous event happened when Drayton Leroy Green ran for office on a ticket with Colfax Ayer and won handily (the only time this type of election was ever held in Ohio).green remains one of Bay's most popular sons even after over two centuries since he first ran for office! Finally, another milestone came when Willard Gifford became mayor following City Council dissolution in 1922 due to term limits set against him by then-Mayor Robert Hockley Sr.. Gifford would serve out his four year term before retiring at age 78 years old making him oldest mayor serving consecutive terms in Ohio! Today Bay continues to be an important community with its close-knit relationship between its citizens and its municipality - both within Township government as well as with neighboring communities - something that not many other towns enjoy today. Residents are dedicated to their homes and businesses while still being supportive members of their local communities; they are also active participants in various civic organizations including Stroudsburg Area Chamber Orchestra (SAO), Peninsula United Methodist Church (PUSC), Green Valley Rifle & Pistol Club (GVRC), Boardman Senior Citizens Association (BACA) and more recent additions such as Peninsula United Methodist Church Women’s Auxiliary Center/SeniorCare Village along Interstate 495 Extension just outside town limits!

Bay, Ohio was named for Samuel Baynes, the first settler in what is now the city of Cleveland. In 1796, John Dennison and his brother-in-law built a small log cabin on the Sandusky River. The first permanent buildings were erected by Elisha Holmes in 1805. The town became a part of Cleveland in 1827. In 1892, Baytowns was established as a separate municipality within Cleveland. It merged with Bay City in 1907 to form Cleveland Heights. In 1924, Caracas Township was organized and added to Cleveland Heights. On November 16, 1930, all of Cleveland Heights annexed Bay City which had been portions of both cities since 1907. As a result of this annexation, Bay City became the second largest city in Cleveland after Akron and before the city of downtown Cleveland proper (which was born from amalgamation of two earlier municipalities). The population of Bay City peaked at over 100,000 residents in 1941 but has declined steadily since then due to various factors including suburbanization and loss of jobs in downtown businesses such as banks and garment shops during World War II. Today the population is under 50 thousand; most residents are retirees or people who work as employees at local businesses that have closed down since the war ended.
