Bay has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cfa) with mild winters and hot,ATA summers. Bay was founded by Methodist missionaries in 1827 as a military post on the Great Miami River system to control access to that region for fur traders and missionaries. The town name comes from an early English settler's name for the river: Bealbaye-a place where many beaver dams had been built. The first post office was established in Bay on March 8, 1829. It served as the " garrison post" until it was moved to Wooster in 1836. In 1830 Bay became part of the new Toledo district of Medina County and remained so until becoming part of Wooster again in 1907. In 1902 bayou Big Creek was renamed Delaware Creek after Lewis Pearsall Delaware who were two founders of Toledo and one founder of Medina County. In 1925 bayou Big Creek was renamed Iuka creek after General George Smedley Butler who fought in World War I and later became President Truman's ambassador to Japan
