Bay is a city located in the eastern portion of Lake Erie County, Ohio, United States. The population was 37,878 at the 2010 census. Bay is the largest city in and the county seat of Erie County. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Bay were traders and explorers working for the French fur trade in the late 17th century. In 1803, General Anthony Wayne founded what would become Bay City on land that he had purchased from the Timmins people. In 1806, John DeWitt founded him as an American trader and shipping magnate in what would become known as DeWitt Township on Detroit Island along with his partner James Wilkinson. bay city became a thriving commercial center with businesses such as DeWitt's Warehouse and Jardine & Co.'s wharf serving both local residents and travelers traveling through the region. In 1814, when Simon Fraser visited Bay City for trade purposes he named it after Rear Admiral Sir Alexander Mackenzie who had led British forces during The War of 1812 against Washington D.C.. The townspeople soon renamed it after their patron saint - St Joseph - which helped attract more businesspeople to their community. The original name was changed back to Bay City on July 4th, 1919 by a vote of city residents over objections from Clifton Heights Mayor Harry Robb Jr., who claimed that "Bay" sounded too similar to Akron (the location then home of Cleveland). During World War II, many jobs were created in munitions plants around Greater Cleveland thanks to war-time production shortages caused by America's entry into World War II without proper planning or warning; these plants employed up to 50% of Bay City's workforce during wartime times alone. Many buildings still stand today in downtown Bay City honoring those impacted by this manufacturing industry: Arsenal Place mall built during World War II now has an exhibit about Greater Cleveland’s wartime industries; Wernher Honegger’s Chemical Plant at 216 West Superior Street closed down but its facade still remains residential live oak trees growth inside since that time . Bay, Ohio is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,844 at the 2010 census. It is the only incorporated community in Cuyahoga County. Bay was one of twenty townships created by the 1792 General Assembly and named for British naval captain John Baynton (1689-1765). The township was located on the east side of bay which forms the southern limit of Cleveland's city limits. When Cleveland was founded in 1812, it included all of what is now Bay Township except for an area around Lake Erie that formed part of final annexation by Cleveland in 1920. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Bay were three brothers from Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania: Solomon (1735-1815), Ebenezer (1736-1811), and Micajah (1740-1810). They arrived about 1800 and cleared a small piece of land near present day Euclid Avenue and Superior Street. Their farm produced corn, beans, pumpkins, potatoes and other vegetables until 1830 when they sold their land to Nicholas Gibbs who built a sawmill on the west bank of the Muskegon River. In 1834 John Fenton purchased Gibbs' mill site and began turning out flour for local merchants. In 1840 Michael Jordon set up a tannery on what is now Superior Street between First Avenue and Third Avenue; this became one of his largest businesses. By 1850 Bay had 10 residents; five were farmers families who raised poultry or hogs while others did business as mechanics/tailors or merchants dealing with goods brought overland from Great Britain or Europe via packet boats departing from Beachwood Landing on Long Island Sound anchored off Canfield Point on Lake Erie opposite modern day Buffalo Niagara Falls whereupon they unloaded their cargo at Williamsville Beach across from modern day Toronto Ontario Canada before continuing their journey downriver to form sections of New York City through Albany Capital province including Buffalo Dutch Square called Gouverneur Square today’s Union Station historic building current location) In 1866 Norbert Ostermann established a grocery store at Euclid Avenue and Superior Streets which became known as Ostermann's Grocery & Clothing Store until it closed in 1959 after being open for eighty years with over 1400 customers In 1904 Euclid Ave., Superior St., Delaware Ave., Clinton Ave., Ravenna Rd., Genesee Rd., Palmer Rd., Bloomfield Dr., Lawrence Drs./Norwich Plz./Bayview Cir./Fulton Ln./Euclid Hts./Wabash Rte./Afternoon Sunset
