Bay is a small town in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Muskegon–Holland, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bay was platted on March 10, 1824 by Captain John Stroud and others under the name of Cadiz. The name comes from Spanish bayo, meaning "channel" or "port." The community's first post office was established in 1827. By 1840, Bay had a school and two churches. In 1863, Bay became the home of Commodore James K. Polk during his visit to America as president; he stayed at Purdy's Hotel on Grand River Avenue for three days before returning to Bay on May 3rd aboard the USS Constitution. Bay has been hit hard by economic recession since 2000-2007 and it has lost over 80% of its jobs between 2000-2006 according to Muskegon County Economic Development Authority data In late 2007/early 2008 there were reports that ownership of Bay's only grocery store would be sold to an unknown party because of financial difficulties caused by tough economic conditions across much of Western Michigan including Muskegon County In early 2009 the store reopened with new management but closed again in October 2009 after not being able to make payrolls . It reopened again in January 2010 but closed again due to lack of customers
Binoculars were first invented in the 17th century by a Dutch scientist named Nicholas-Jacques Conte. He designed and built the first binoculars to be used for astronomy, which he called "cataracts." The first binoculars were made of glass and had a magnification of only about 7x. By the early 1800s, advances in technology had caused a growth in the use of binoculars. In 1821, Nicholas-Jacques Conte created what is now known as the "Conte Binaire" model. This model featured a magnification of 50x and was able to be used for both daylight and night viewing. By 1875, there were over 2,000 different types of binoculars available on the market. During World War I, binocular manufacturers produced large numbers of military Binocular models such as those used by U.S Marines during World War I (1914-1918). These models featured field glasses with lenses that could be rotated so they could view any direction at once.

Bay, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Holmes County. The population was 4,811 at the 2010 census. Bay was founded in 1824 by General John Cranch as a trading post on the Scioto River and became a village in 1829. It was named for Commodore Joshua Bayne who fought with British forces during the American Revolution. The town site was purchased from Native Americans by Colonel George Rogers Clark in 1794 and used as an encampment on the Scioto River for troops commanded by Clark during his expedition againstusky Indians in 1795-96. After Clark's defeat at Fallen Timbers, Bay became part of newly formed Washington County, which included all of what is now Ohio and Indiana. In 1801, Bay became part of Holmes County when it was created from parts of Washington and Lycoming Counties. The name "Bay" came from General John Cranch's use of it to trade goods with French traders operating along the Ohio River system (now known as Canada). In 1824, General John Cranch founded Bay as a trading post on the Scioto River after purchasing land from its previous owner, Colonel George Rogers Clark Sr., during his expedition againstthe Creek Indians near present-day Cleveland. As one of several posts established along this stretch of the river early in America's history, Bay quickly grew into a thriving community with commerce being its mainstay economy until canal construction began downstream adjacent to town beginning in 1830 made shipping access more efficient overall while also providing new residents with improved amenities including schools and churches not available upstream or within easy walking distance either drawbacks or advantages depending on one's point-of-view given that even today many businesses locate just minutes away via arterial streets rather than setting up shop inside original Indian dwellings simply because doing so would have presented challenges such as higher taxes due to increased commercial activity) With increased transportation options becoming available once canals were completed nearby; fishing became an important industry especially since these new waterways provided much-needed access to natural resources unavailable upstream or else difficult to reach (elderly farmers still hunted game Catawba Indians living east side Scioto Rivers region which used their hunting grounds seasonally); merchants built warehouses ashore located next to rapids past current day Garmont Street allowing them unparalleled security should anything happen to their vessels moored there; citizens erected brick schoolhouses soon filling most gaps remaining between log buildings then existing churches prior to that date; malevolent spirits were said often To visit sailors died overboard after dark making navigation difficult if not suicidal trying daylight crossings) bayspeople erecting ghost trophies Known locally as 'trees out front'.
