They were driven out by Europeans in 1795. The first white settlers arrived in 1803 and named it after bay on Lake Erie. The town was incorporated as a village in 1825. It grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its location near major transportation routes and its access to markets for agricultural products. In 1907, Bay became an industrial center when two companies opened production plants there: Standard Oil of America and American Tobacco Company. By 1930, Bay had become one of the most important economic centers in Northeast Ohio because of its manufacturing base and riverfront shipping lanes. In recent years, Bay has seen a significant increase in tourism due to its natural resources (such as beach-heads for swimming) and history (such as its role in fostering Brownsville's independent spirit). However, some residents remain concerned about gentrification or illegal immigration from Mexico City which has led to increased crime rates in the town.

Bay, Ohio is a small town in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. Bay is located on the bayou Tecumseh River and comprises ZIP code 42001. The town was founded in 1814 by Protestants who fled religious persecution in Prussia. It became a United States military post during World War II and later became an industrial center for steel production, textiles, and other products. Since 2000, Bay has been home to the Cleveland National Forest headquarters. Bay was first populated by Mennonites from Germany who arrived as pioneers in 1814 and soon after built cabins along the bayou Tecumseh River for themselves and their families. By 1830, about 100 Mennonite settlers had moved into Bay from nearby Huron Township, making it one of Ohio's earliest townships organized under state law before that time. In 1834, Bay Joined the Union as part of the newly formed State of Ohio; its charter included specifying that "the inhabitants thereof shall be calledbay people." In 1850–1851, Bay received a grant of 640 acres (2 km²) from President James Krieger to establish what would become known as Krieger Square; it remains one of only two tracts remaining within Baytown limits today which were not purchased or leased by anyone else prior to their purchase bybay people in 1851-52 pursuant to charter section 8-5-2(a). The square still stands today adjacent to Interstate 80 just south of downtown baytown Bay residents voted on November 3rd 1840 to change their name from "Herschel" to "Bay". They did so because they wanted no connection with Prussia which had wrongfully persecuted them there during World War I even though they had nothing whatsoever do with those events There are many theories regarding why this name change happened but most agree that it had something to do with wanting less exposure/ recognition from Prussia while living in America Some may also have chosen this name because they felt like they fit better into American society than their German counterparts who typically behaved more like inside Germans rather then Americans This name change effectively began what would ultimately be a long history of collaboration between bay people and American authorities through various forms including social clubs/ associations such as The Masonic Lodge #1 & #3 (formed in 1850), Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (formed 1865), Advisory Committee on Heraldry established 1865 & continued until made defunct 1946 due primarily to lack funding) which conferred honorary citizenship upon bay people throughout America - presently headquartered at Canton Hall Museum - although some continueirknowledge thru online forums etc
Bay was founded in 1792 by Captain John baynton. The town of Bay Village, now part of Cleveland, was incorporated in 1813. In the 1840s, Bay became a major shipping center for goods coming from the Great Lakes region and the eastern United States.
