Barberton, Ohio is a small town located in the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The population was 9,752 at the 2000 census and it has since grown to over 11,000 residents. Barberton is located on the southern edge of Hamilton Township, about 25 miles northwest of downtown Cincinnati. It is bordered by Bethel Township to the north, Findlay Township to the east, and Hardin Township to the south. In 1814, General James Wilkinson founded what would become Barberton when he purchased land from George Smith. At that time there were only a few houses in what is now Barberton. By 1860, there were twenty-six homes in what is now Barberton. In 1907, local farmers created a new township named Hamilton Township which included part of present day Barberton. The township was dissolved in 1915 but its lands remained withinHardin Township until 1925 when they were transferred to Bethel Township for development purposes. On December 20th 1910 an Act of Congress established Purchase No 822 (also known as Donation No 5) which granted land adjacent to today's city limits including much of what is now Barberton up for purchase by American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T). This act helped create one of Cincinnati's most historic neighborhoods with its many mansions built between 1911 and 1920 during AT&T's heyday as a telephone company. The first post office was established in 1909 and operated out of a house on High Street near where it remains today. For many years it served as the primary provider for mail service for all those living within Barberton boundaries; however with deregulation beginning in 1984 service became available exclusively through USPS Mailboxes starting February 1st 1989 Today much OFB activity takes place off State Route 42 just west of Main Street including research & development laboratories associated with 3M Corporation Headquarters Deptford PA while production facilities are located along Interstate 75 just east of US 25

The community site of present-day Barberton was first settled by Squanto and his family on land that he purchased from the Shawnee Indians in 1798. The area now called Barberton was part of the Township of Athens. In 1802, James Barber laid out a town on this site, naming it after himself. The town had a population of ten men and one woman when itWas organized in 1814. It grew rapidly during the 1830s, due to its location near Great Miami River water crossings and its access to trade with surrounding counties. In 1837, Barberton became an incorporated village under state law; it had a population of seventy-five people. By 1860, however, its growth had slowed due to competition from more populous towns within Athens County. On July 1 of that year, however, Barberton voted to become an independent city under federal law; it had a population of two hundred fifty-six people when it became an independent city pursuant to Act No. 624 (1860). During the American Civil War (1861–1865), Barberton served as headquarters for Union General Joseph Ewell's forces marching through central Ohio along the route traveled by General Ulysses S Grant's army during his general campaign against slavery in 1865–1866. After Confederate General Robert Easley surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865, most significant items taken from his army were stored at nearby Washington Township until January 28th 1870 when they were transported back east via wagon road across Danville Lake towards Lebanon Junction where they were finally delivered off into Union hands at Greeneville Landing on Ironton Creek just south of Lebanon Junction on May 11th 1870

However, Barberton regained its prosperity starting in the late 1800s, thanks to new industries such as manufacturing and agriculture. In 2000, Barberton became an official suburb of Cleveland.
