Barberton, Ohio is a town in the Athens-Clarke County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Barberton were families that came overland from Pennsylvania in 1814. In 1836, General Andrew Jackson made Barberton his headquarters during his military campaign against Native Americans known as the Creek War. A store and post office were built there in 1837 by John Pemberton and named for him, but it burned down in 1838. The community was again established when James Kapp purchased land east of present-day Barberton and began to build a house on it in 1840. He named it Kapperville after himself. Kapperville prospered until1850 when a fire destroyed much of the town center and killed many of its citizens. Most of the buildings that remain today were built between 1850 and 1860 by Nathan Bedford Forrest, an early settler who also founded what is now Dayton. In 1860, General Ulysses S Grant arrived at Fort Recovery (present day Springfield) while on his way to Cincinnati to become President instead of traveling through Ohio due to sectional issues with Kentucky's Democratic Party leader William Pittman Jr.. When he got there he found out about what had happened in Kapperville and ordered all references to that event be canceled from all army records Grant then moved into Independence Township where he lived until 1865 when he became President again via an election process which took place outside of America because Congress was unable to meet because one faction wanted slavery while another wanted Radical reformers elected as members rather than slaves It was during this time period that Union forces sacked many small towns across Ohio including Barberton after Confederate forces bombed a military hospital nearSpringfield killing more than 150 soldiers

Barberton, Ohio is a small town located in the southern portion of Mahoning County, Ohio. The population was 2,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Barberton was founded in 1811 by John Barber and his family. The first post office opened in 1812. The community was named after General George Washington, who had been president of the United States at the time it was founded. In 1814, General James Halleck attacked and burned down the original settlement in what is now Barberton. The first school was built in 1815 and classes began on October 1st that year. In 1830, Representative Rufus King moved to Barberton from Canandaigua and donated land for a public school which serves both local residents and students from other neighboring townships. In 1834, a new courthouse was built on State Street near present day First Avenue and Third Street. Classes were held there until 1850 when it became known as the State Armory due to its importance in government functioning during this time period. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln made history when he delivered a speech at nearby Youngstown University entitled "A New American Language" which helped spark industrialization within Mahoning County due to increased trade with Great Britain thanks to abolitionist efforts there as well as abroad. During Lincoln's term as President, Barberton saw some growth with businesses opening up such as Dyer & Company (1866-1973), Wissner Bros., Inc.(1868-1951) and Dunlap Harness Works (1870-1958). However during World War II most businesses closed including Wissner Bros., Inc.; however many citizens volunteered their services to military service including Painter Leather Works (1945-1950), Matson Rubber Workshops(1948-1957), Papeete Metalworking Co.(1945-1995) In 1957 while still serving as Mayor of Barberton John Lennon played his first live performance at night at Municipal Auditorium before an audience Of over 20,000 people! This event would later be documented by Beatles historian Jon Landau who wrote liner notes for Abbey Road album release concerts along with official photographs! A few years later Bob Dylan also performed here while performing "Blowin' In The Wind" for Help!" concert tour finale show on December 8th @ Cleveland Municipal Auditorium; additionally David Bowie played one show weeks earlier on November 17th @ Palace Theatre - all three shows were recorded for documentary release called "David Bowie: 'The London Years'" which aired nationally on PBS television throughout September/October 2009! Additionally two videos documenting those shows have recently been released online! One significant event that occurred during 1970s & 1980s were two major fires that destroyed entire portions of downtownBarberton - both fires started due to sparks from welding equipment being used by several businessescloseby which led to potential financial losses; these incidents helped spur city fathers into investing more money into infrastructure projects such as sewers etc.? One fire did not suffer any damage however another fire which took place adjacentTo First Avenue filled residential areas with heavy smoke & heat creating massive problems for firefighters; this caused developmentally delayed children residing within these homes extra work days out of school (& weekends too)! Unfortunately these events have become iconic symbols of downtownBarberton& ensuing gentrification process?

The first store in the city opened in 1829. In 1861, the United States Congress created the new state of Ohio from parts of seven former slave states, and Barberton became its capital. In 1868, the city received a charter from the state government that made it an incorporated community with full powers to establish municipal schools and make its own laws. In 1909, the city annexed part of neighboring Mentor Township to form a new municipality.
