Barberton, Ohio is one of the most significant optical towns in the United States. The community was founded by three men in 1892- John G. Barber, Augustus H. Graham and Franklin S. Wright - who were looking for a place to build their own optical business. In 1916, they incorporated the town as a village and renamed it after Frederick A. Pohlman, Jr., who had been instrumental in developing television technology in Cleveland. The first businesses in Barberton were opticians, but over time other retail sectors have entered into the community including printing shops, sporting goods stores and automotive dealerships. The two main thoroughfares that run through town are State Street and Proctor Avenue which are home to numerous restaurants and bars as well as an increasing number of small businesses catering to a variety of local needs such as plumbing, roofing and web design services. Barberton has seen significant growth in recent years with the establishment of new schools, hospitals and sports stadiums which have attracted more residents and businesses to its streetscape. This growth has come at a cost however with many homes being lost or replaced by shopping malls or other development projects. In 1926, Mr. Milton Schieffer opened a second optical shop in downtown Barberton; this shop became known as the "Milton Schieffer Optics." During World War II, local businesses made significant contributions to the war effort by supplying military personnel with various types of optical equipment and supplies. In 1955, BOSI became a subsidiary of Owens Corning Corporation; during this time, Owens Corning began manufacturing glass products for use in optometric equipment such as spectacles and contact lenses. In 1978, BOSI merged with anotheroptical company called Hennicke & Sons to form Hennicke & Bosch Corporation (H&B). At this time, H&B began producing sunglasses and other contact lens products under its own name instead of using Owens Corning's product line exclusively. Today, BOSI is one of the largest optics companies in North America with over sixty years of experience manufacturing high quality eye care products including spectacles and contact lenses!
Barberton, Ohio is a city located in Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. The population was 12,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Barberton were French missionaries in 1795. On July 4, 1803, Ulysses S. Grant came to Barberton and made an official proclamation that the town be named for General George Washington and his army who had fought in the War of 1812. In 1814-1816 James Ketchum built a sawmill on Buffalo Creek and began producing lumber which he transported by wagon to Cleveland. In 1830 John Hines founded the paper mill which became one of the largest paper mills in America. He also built a gristmill and three barns which are still standing today. In 1865 John Geddes founded the Baptist Church which remains an active religion present in Barberton today. In 1916-1917 Weber & Carpenter bought land from Mr. Ketchum for what is now known as Civic Center Park and built a shopping center which included a movie theater and bank building (now home to Corinthian Colleges). This development led to increased growth within Barberton as residents started looking for ways to get around town on their morning commute or during summertime when there was no traffic congestion downtown! In 1957-1958 Guymon Weiland imported some 20% of all baseball gloves made in America from Japan because he believed that American players would not be able to play against quality Japanese competition due to lack of arm strength! As manufacturing decentralized throughout America during this time period more companies such as Weiland outsourced their glove production here in Ohio so that jobs could stay here instead of moving overseas (this trend continued into the 1990s with various companies like Gillette making similar decisions). A local business called "The Keg" became wellknown for its delicious chili dogs until it closed its doorsolo late last year due largely to low sales but new vegan options have taken its place!

In 1814, it became a town when it amalgamated with other towns in Muskingum County. The following year, it became an incorporated city after its citizens voted to adopt this form of government. In 1902, the name of the city was changed to Barberton in honor of John Barber's grandson, George Washington Barber II (1849-1940). As a result of World War I and later economic changes throughout Ohio and America, Barberton began to decline during the 1920s and 1930s. However, through industrialization and investment by local businesses such as Jardine Rubber Company and American Tobacco Company (Atkins) during the late 1920s through early 1930s, Barberton began to rebound growth again during Prohibition era period from 1933 until repeal in 1937. The post-World War II period saw continued economic growth as new industries such as shipbuilding started up along with suburban development around downtown streetscapes that had been designed for horse barn conversions into apartments or office space; however since then much of the original downtown fabric has been lost due to demolition or redevelopment efforts by various developers over time. In recent years many residents have chosen to live close to their jobs rather than commute long distances each day for work purposes; this has led to increased retail traffic on downtown intersections which can cause problems for pedestrians who must cross busy streets without interruption while also trying not block views from restaurants or stores across busy sidewalks near busy streetscapes outside their homes2 Today's economy is driven largely by service industries such as health care services and tourism3 although some manufacturing activity still takes place4 including a few small businesses that continue unchanged from past eras5
