The Barberton Knife Company was founded in 1875 by Harvey B. Barber and his son, Harry. The company operated out of a small shop on Elm Street in Barberton until 1905 when it moved to its current location at 4111 Winton Road. In 1942, the company merged with the John H. Stephenson Knife Company and continued to operate as one entity under that name until 1949 when it changed its name to the Harry J. Stevenson Knife Company. In 1960, the company became part of the Sheffield- manufactures Corporation and continued operation as that organization until 1985 when it merged with DeWitt Stevens Corporation to form DeWitt Stevens & Co., Incorporated.
Barberton, Ohio is a small town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,594 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Area. The town was founded in 1827 by Nicholas Barber and his brother-in-law James Caldwell as a farming community on the east side of the Cuyahoga River. The first school was opened in 1829 and it served as the nucleus for what would become Barberton. In 1835, Nicholas Barber married Rachel Ann Lovett and renamed the community after her. The first store opened in 1840 and it became one of the most successful businesses in town until it closed its doors in 1902. The first doctor to practice in Barberton was Dr. Nathaniel Prentice from1846-1848. In 1860, John Wertz bought property southwest of town and began developing it into what would become Woodland Hills Country Club which still exists today as a private club with over 6,000 memberships In 1912–1913, an important event occurred within Barberton when Mayor David Aiken donated land adjacent to his home on State Street to be used as a high school stadium for local boys’ sports teams known then as “The Indians” (now called “Cleveland Cavaliers”). This event marked the beginning of what would be considered Barberton's Golden Age as both football and baseball were played here at this early stage of development From 1915 through 1916, due to World War I effort by many residents to provide food for their families during wartime shortages, barbershops throughout central Ohio participated in an annual holiday drive known fondly among locals as "the pie drive". Every October since 1925 there has been Pie Drive Day at City Hall with various activities such as picnic lunch pidetions from local restaurants that evening . In 1955–1956 Tim Hickey replaced Dr. Prentice as village physician; he also chaired village meeting from 1951 until his retirement five years later . Village hall operated without incident until 1978 when fire destroyed much equipment; following which new building designed by architect Myron Hellinger was constructed . On December 1st 1997 Mayor Sacco announced that he will step down effective January 1st 1998 after serving two terms with no end date set for his remaining term

Barberton is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,038 at the 2010 census. It was once part of the Middletown Township subdivision of Union Township. The first settler in Barberton was John Barber, who arrived in 1810. He and his family built a cabin on the east side of junction Creek. In 1812, John's son-in-law Samuel Winchester moved to Barberton from Bedford County and married Jane Holbrook; they founded a small town named after them, Winchesterburg (now known as Northfield). Samuel Winchester died in 1826 and his widow continued to run the small town until her death in 1869. She bequeathed all her property to the state of Ohio for educational purposes. In 1865, the state created Muskingum Valley School District No. 4 which included Barberton; it remains an intact school district today. In 1870, George Washington Carver came to Barberton with his family and started a farm near where he still lives on Franklin Street today. The Carvers were major landowners in Barberton through most of its history; their land extended from what is now south side of Centre Avenue east to north side of Center Avenue and included much of what is now downtown area including present-day Statehouse Square Park (). They also laid out much of what is now parts of Third Street between Franklin and Wood Streets., one block west along Franklin Street from where it crosses Centre Avenue today.) From around this time until 1920 there was only one grocery store open continuously in town – Wigel’s Grocery (now closed). A post office operated at Barberton from 1830 until 1890.; both mail delivery services originated hereabouts during that time frame.] One notable event during this time period occurred when General Grant visitedMuskingum Valley School District No.-4 on May 14th 1865 while attending a meeting at Oberlin College Seminary hosted by Ulysses S Grant himself.] It should be noted that not all residents were farmers or shopkeepers - many people living here prior to 1830 either worked as constables or cowboys for local ranches or farms] . Most importantly though, these early settlers made significant contributions to Muskingum Valley School District No.-4 which continuesGovt service even into the 21st century!] Although farming remained an important occupation throughout most if not all aspectsof village life into adulthood,[...] ,with technology advancing rapidly new businesses began opening up including two banks: The First National Bank opened on Main Street in 1902[] ]and The Pemberton Drug Store opened just south off Third Street across from Denny's restaurant [in 1907], later becoming called Gibson Bros.[...] One other noteworthy business venture during this time frame was when meat market pioneer Julius Weisbach established a feed store hereon South Third Street opposite Statehouse Square]; he would remain active within this community well into our current day] . Barberton was once a thriving community located on the banks of the Maumee River. In 1827, settlers arrived in what is now Barberton and founded a small town. The community grew rapidly due to its location and prosperity, and by 1881, it had attained a population of over 100 people. However, by 1900, Barberton had all but disappeared as a result of competition from larger towns along the river. Its last residents left in 1924. Today, the communities around Barberton are largely forgotten and only serve as reminders of its past.
