Barberton is a town in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 8,869 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mahoning County. The town was founded on October 10, 1824 by John Barber and is named for him. The paper mill that still stands in Barberton was built in 1857 and remains one of the largest mills in central Ohio. The millinery district now located in the town has been home to many famous firms including Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Lululemon Athletica, and Cartier watches. In addition to its economic importance as a center for the production of cloth and other fabrics, Barberton also provides education opportunities with its three public schools: Barberton High School (grades 9-12), Barberton Middle School (grades 7-9), and Butler Community Academy (grades 6-8). The first post office which operated from 1824 until 1888 had been known as Westfield. In 1896 it changed its name to honor John Prentice Barber who had donated land for the new post office building. When that structure burned down in 1906 it became necessary to find another name for the new building so a contest was held among local residents to come up with one that would be memorable both locally and statewide. On October 10th of that year they voted "Barberton" by popular vote becoming the first post office ever established within township boundaries since 1800! The buildings at 416 Main Street were erected between 1907 and 1909 as part of a program designed to improve transportation facilities within Mahoning County while creating jobs for locals during hard times; this included construction of several miles of long street running through downtown which forms today's business district area When Interstate 81 was constructed through Mahoning County in 1954 it severed Barberton from much of what remained rural Walton Township including most of what is now parts of Easton Heights, Northfield Heights and South Euclid Hills; however despite this change most people continued to call their own homes within their original township boundaries regardless of whether or not they lived near I-81%. Many businesses closed around this time due largely to changes brought about by rapid suburban growth across central Ohio but some successful businesses such as those mentioned above continue to operate today thanks in part to continuing support from government officials who have made sure I-81 doesn't negatively impact these businesses directly In recent years there has been an increasing trend towards more outdoor pursuits being enjoyed by residents both inside and outside their townships limits; this has led to increased development along adjacent roads leading intoIMahing County providing more opportunity for retail development as well as housing developments . Barberton, Ohio is a small town located in the southwestern corner of the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton-Cincinnati metropolitan area. The area now known as Barberton was first settled by French colonists in 1794 and renamed for Captain John Barber, who had explored this region before that. The community first developed around a Presbyterian church and school, which were destroyed by fire in 1812. A new Presbyterian church was built in 1828 and named after Scottish surgeon Dr. James Macdonald. In 1831, two brothers founded the village of Barberton on land they had purchased from David Laddsfeldt, an early settler in what is now Dayton Township. At first, only men could farm in the area; but when a post office was established in 1836, women began to receive mail too. A hotel and grocery store were built soon afterward (the latter being destroyed by a tornado on November 6th 1886). By 1860, there were over 100 residents living in Barberton; however, it would not become an official Village until 1915 when it merged with neighboring Sycamore Township to form one government entity under the name of Dayton-Sycamore-Barberton Township Association Incorporated. The original village site remains today as part of downtown Barberton where many residential buildings still stand dating back to those days including Third & State Streets between High Street and Locust Alley/Ulysses Road North which still has its original turnpike sign from 1830! In 1904–05 coalmining operations started up near present day Sycamore Creek; however due to high water levels caused by rains during construction workers lost their jobs en masse and did not return until after World War I when subsidence made mining again possible nearby at Point Breeze mine using various methods including shipboard drills etcetera finally ending coalmining here also circa 1968
