The area that now Barberton was first settled by the Delaware and Miami Indians in the 1790s. In 1802, John Barber took up land in what is now Barberton and began to build a home. The first post office was established in 1813. In 1814, a schoolhouse was built on State Road 2 between present day Monroe and Barberton. A grist mill and sawmill were also built here during this time period. By 1830, there were over 50 residents living in Barberton proper and it had become an agricultural center with many stores, churches, schools and other buildings erected during this time period including: the Masonic Lodge (1830), Presbyterian Church (1831), Baptist Church (1832), Methodist Episcopal Church (1836) and School House No. 3 (1838). During the mid 19th century much change took place within local society as well as changes within Mahoning County itself due to railroad development which would have a significant impact on both Barberton’s economy and its demographics later on in history; specifically through Bahamian immigrants who came to work on American railroads starting around 1860 primarily as cooks/butlers before eventually becoming administrators or engineers - often leaving behind their homes country of origin for better opportunities back home across the pond! Barberton, Ohio is a small town located in the northeastern corner of the U.S. state of Ohio. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area and has a population of just over 11,000 people as of2015. The town was founded by pioneers in 1814 and became a incorporated village in 1902. It was named for Edwin Barber, an American Revolutionary War general and one of the signers of the Constitution. The Barberton Manufacturing Company was founded in 1868 by Edwin Barber and his brothers-in-law John Henschel and George Weigel with help from James Denny Sr., who owned a nearby textile mill. The company manufactured goods such as clothing, boots, saddles, supplies, furniture, and other items for farmers and businesses throughout most of its history. In 1929 it merged with two other companies to form United States Steel Corporation (USSC). During World War II USSC produced munitions including planes, tanks, artillery pieces, ships and warships for Allied forces; however, due to wartime restrictions on exports it had little impact on the war effort overall. After the war ended USSC continued to produce munitions until its collapse in 1981. Today much of what USSC produced has been replaced by software or hardware products exported around the world; but some old products like car parts still survive as part of Barberton's legacy economy. One example is US SC's original "Dirty Harry" gun holster which continues to be made today by Richards & Richardson Incorporated out of Battle Creek MI
Barberton was founded in 1824 by two men, Moses Barber and Solomon H. White. The town grew rapidly and by 1830 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1835, the first school was built in Barberton and instruction began. Over the next few years, several more schools were built, including one for girls in 1840. The town continued to grow and by 1845 it had a population of over 350 people. In 1850, the first courthouse was built and soon afterwards, the first jail was constructed. The town also became home to an agricultural society which managed various farms in the area. In 1865, Barberton became part of the new Commonwealth of Ohio and soon afterwards its own political district. By 1870, however, Barberton had declined significantly in size and status and its only remaining purpose was as a bedroom community for larger towns nearby. Businesses closed down throughout the late 19th century as automobiles replaced horses as transportation methods for goods and people alike; many residents left for better opportunities elsewhere in Ohio or Indiana. After World War I ended withArmistice Day (November 11), most businesses reopened but there were very few jobs available due to Prohibition being passed during that time period nationally; many small businesses did not survive into the postwar period when manufacturing returned to American soil thanks to technological advances such as automation/technology (i.e., “the age of steam”).
