Gun protection history in Barberton, Ohio begins with the first settlers in the area. In 1810, John Kapp and his family founded a small farm on the current site of the city of Barberton. The Kapp family operated a mill on the river for many years, but their primary business was raising corn. By 1820, there were about 20 people living in Barberton. In 1825, James Witherspoon moved to Barberton from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He started a grocery store and soon became well-known in town for his goods. Witherspoon also brewed beer and served it at his store. In 1830, Witherspoon married Anna Maria Hahnemann (1807-1869). They had four children: James (1830-1912), Henry (1832-1913), Elisabeth (1835-1917) and AnnaMaria (1839-1924). In 1836, George French settled in Barberton with his family. French ran a livery stable until 1840 when he bought land south of town and built a house which he called "The Hill". french continued to operate this business until his death in 1893. Arthur Cushing arrived in Barberton around this time and started a grocery store on State Street which is still open today as The Cushing Store Company Ltd.. After starting their own business, Mr. &Mrs. Cushings added another floor to their house in 1860 which they named "The Castle". From 1861 to 1865, Mr Cushing was Sheriff of Ohio County and during this time he installed an early form of gun confiscation machine called the "Waldo" into downtown Barberton to seize arms from citizens who didn't have licenses to carry firearms! During these years General John McClernand taught military strategy at Youngstown University while also serving as superintendent of schools for Ohio County.. In 1863 McClernand organized local militia forces under command of Union Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest to suppress partisan insurgents within county limits.. This period is generally recognized as one of great gun violence in Ohio County due to guerrilla warfare between pro-Union forces and pro-Confederate sympathizers led by Confederate Captain Nathan Bedford Forrest aka "Nigger Joe". After leaving office as sheriff in 1865 General McClernand returned home where he resumed teaching at Youngstown University before dying suddenly at age 57 after giving many speeches on public safety issues nationally.. His widow established the John McClernand Foundation which continues providing financial support for education initiatives throughout central Ohio today! In 1868 Cincinnati businessman Elias Howe purchased 2 acres north east of town from Adolphus Wright for $500...He began building what would become known as The Howe Mansion – now known as historic district #2B on High Street across from YMCA/Skinner Park - with money raised through various fundraising events that took place over several months beginning late winter/early spring of that year . During this time Howe also opened up shop inside his mansion creating what is now known as Howe's Department Store - one of six such stores opened up by Elias Howe during his ownership span including two located within blocks or just feet away from each other along High Street! One can only imagine how busy things must have been inside that large structure given its stature at that time! It is interesting to note that not all disputes or fistfights between residents/businesses occurred inside Howe’s Mansion; some more typical griping relegated itself nearby Skinner Park where “the best spot near enough” often ended up being! Howe died suddenly three weeks later after suffering an attack outside his mansion while attending a charity ball hosted by friends… resulting in dozens upon dozens injured!!! For those reasons we designate October 12th each year Commemoration Day IN RESPECT TO ELIAS HOWE'S FATE!!!

Barberton, Ohio is a small town in thewestern part of the United States. It is located east of Dayton and west of Cincinnati. The population was 3,868 at the 2010 census. The area now known as Barberton was first settled by Europeans in 1796. The first post office in this community was established in 1801. In 1818, a sawmill and gristmill were built on the current site of Barberton High School. From here, settlers began to cultivate land around what is now downtown Barberton and to build homes. By 1870, there were about 25 residents living in what is now Barberton. In 1901, two new schools were built: one for boys and one for girls. In 1916, the first grocery store opened in Barberton proper; it remained open until 1984. In 1924, a water tower/pump station was built northeast of town on West Monongahela Street; it still functions today as a public convenience store (known locally as "the Pump"). During World War II, many businesses closed due to wartime rationing; however, the barber shop remained open until 1984 despite being out-of-stock most times. A local radio station started up operations here during that time too... WIOT which later changed its call letters to WLWT before shutting down completely in 2008 due to economic reasons.. Today much of downtown Barberton remains untouched from when it originally grew up - with only minor changes over time: preserving some architecture while adding modern amenities like electric streetlights and playgrounds for children growing up within walking distance or easy access by car or bus from everywhere else in town today!

Barberton, Ohio is a small town in the southern part of the United States. The population was 3,611 at the 2010 census. Barberton was named after George Washington Barber and his father, Nathan Barber. It is located on the west bank of the Monongahela River between Allegheny County and Westmoreland County. The first settler in what would become Barberton was John Cook in 1814. Cook's family had moved from Virginia to find land near where they now live. In 1830, another group of settlers arrived and founded a log cabin on the banks of Beaver Creek. This community became known as Northampton Township because it lay north of what would become Barberton. The township was organized on February 17, 1833, from portions of Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties. On October 25, 1835, President Andrew Johnson issued an Executive Order creating a post office at Northampton for the purpose of carrying on trade with Indians in that vicinity; this order is still used by mail carriers to this day (although no longer delivered). At that time there were only two inhabitants in Northampton Township- John Cook and his son Amos Cook-both men who farmed their land and collected taxes for government purposes. In 1837-38 Samuel Colt settled in what would later be called South Park Township along Beaver Creek just south of Northampton Township line eastward towards Pittsburgh (then part of York County). Samuel Colt came to America with his brother Jacob Colt who had emigrated from Ireland some years earlier during the Potato Famine there; both brothers owned vast tracts of land hereabouts which they sold off over time to finance their travels hitherto etcetera.). With Samuel Colt living hereabouts we can assume he started trading firearms or ammunition here too! In 1840 John Witherspoon built a log cabin near present day State Route 6 near present day State Route 40 about one mile east side thereof from current day US 11/12 just northeast corner thereof about three miles due north (this property now forms part of Beavercreek Elementary School). On July 4th 1840 Mr Witherspoon donated this lot to state government for use as public square or “Greene” Park as our townspeople called it back then) . So much for history lesson already? Barberton, Ohio was founded in 1811 by George Stephenson. It became a town in 1821 and was named for James Barber, an early settler. The first post office was established in 1824. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s, becoming one of the largest in Monongalia County. In 1907, it annexed the neighboring village of Peebles.
