After two weeks of exploring they discovered a natural harbor that would be perfect for their vessel: The "Natchez". A wharf was built at this location, named after General Nicholas Nattawaya who had sold them land south of Fort Myers (then part of Indian Territory) in 1825. The town began as a small wooden structure called Johnstown which later became known as Barberton due to its proximity to Johnstown Creek which served as its water supply and drainage system. In 1836, James Kapp purchased 2,500 acres (10 km²) north of Barberton from Josefina de la Rosa y Arango for $1 per acre (0.50 ha). He named it Kapp's Prairie after himself and his brother Adam Kapp who had also bought land there in 1835 from Joséfina de la Rosa y Arango. In 1840, he donated 1/4 mile (.40 km) east of present day Squaw Street to create what is now barbertown square because he felt that women should not have to go far to get their hair done legally or illegally! This square still stands today as one corner of Squaw Square Park located across from FirstEnergy Stadium! In 1848 Chauncy Hargrave donated 5 acres (20 m²) east side road leading into town limits between Third Avenue and Fourth street to become north side road named Hargrave's Road after himself! In 1850 Jens Jensen opened his Railway Shop at Seventh Avenue & Market Street which became one of the first businesses in town! By 1870 there were over 100 businesses active within Barbertonlimits! Heinrich Muehlenbeck donated 4 lots west side along Third Avenue between Washington Boulevard & Market Street in 1870s just southwest of current day State Route 30 making him one of the largest donors ever!! Herschel Wallace Prentice donation made up most (~80%)of total donations made within township limits during late 1800s!!! By 1900 most residents were German immigrants so name change from Barberton to Dayton did little good since majority Polish speaking populace continued calling themselves "Barbertonians" until 1955 when all Poles moved out except for two families living until Recently... extreme diversity exists among BARBERTONIANS today even though majority identify as White !! :( Today much tourist activity takes place here including art galleries etc., but job opportunities are scarce given lack thereof outside local community
